Can TEIN SS coilovers survive in winters?

Hi Guys. Thought about getting a set of TEIN SS for my 3G, but not sure how these things hold up against harsh winters. Up in Canada where I am, we get dumps and dumps of snow, plus the city throws out a lot of salt/sand/crap.

Heard a few horror stories about the coilovers getting rust and seized, and don't want to go down the same path. Anybody have some personal experience to share?

Maybe I should just get a set of A-Spec suspensions, or just springs?

Thanks a lot!

there are a few members that have coils and they are in canada. Dougboy comes to mind first, PM him and see what he does. Where in Canada are you?

I've had SS's for two winters now, and we always get a decent amt of snow/ice here.

I also adjust the ride height myself every fall and haven't had issues with rust or seizing.

Located in Winterpeg, Manitoba

I think Dougboy is in T.O., and winters basically does not exist in T.O.

Thanks! From you mod list, looks like you have what I am wanting to get. The SS and the EDFC Hopefully I don't have to sell a kidney for this setup.

if you keep them for the most part clean from salt on the streets in the winter you should be ok. clean them with wd-40 to keep them coated good.

You can buy Krown oil in a can...spray a light coat on them prior to snow/salt and the Krown will act as a barrier between the salt and the threads.....nothing will rust and seize up.

Thanks for the tip! I just looked up Krown, and seems like they don't have any dealers in Manitoba. Are there any online stores? Or maybe I can call up "Rust Check", as they provide similar service as Krown rust proofing.

Yeah, weird....nor do they have dealers in Sask! Try calling a dealer in Calgary or Ontario and see if they'll ship you a can...I'm sure they will. The cans are $10 each...
