can a bent rim be repaired?

A few days ago I hit a ditch in the road and since then I feel a slight vibration when I exceed 40mph---I took it into the dealer and he said I bent 2 of my rims(front and back) and they cannot fix them--they said they do not fix rims they just replace when they are bent. They suggested replacing(at 300.00 a pop)
Is this usually the standard protocol for these types of things?
This isnt the normal dealer I do business with so I am just wondering...

In most cases a bent rim can be fixed. it will never be the same as it was from the factory but they can get it some what back into spec. i bent a rim on my first car on a pot hole and they fixed it with no problem and I never noticed a difference

if the rim was cracked they won't touch it....... also a dealer might not want to repair a bent rim because they aren't like new and they don't want to be responsible. just get some after market rims.... it will cost less then the acura ones and be different from every one else.

Sorry...never did actually answer your initial question....yes...a bent rim can be repaired - but - IMHO.....dont waste your time. Go to ebay. You might find someone who did the same thing and is selling the other two...you never know?

I went to ebay....225 shipped with no center hub...vs 275 at the dealer.
I went with the dealer and hated spending all that money on it...I guess I just found it hard to believe one pothole could bend 2 of my rims--but I definitely felt slight vibration thru the body of my car and now I dont.

Eeek!
I bent a wheel on my old car an $100 got it straightened just fine (a local Tire shop sent it out) . X 2 would be $200. You went down for $550 ?

And yes, one pothole can do lots more than just bend a rim. Keep track of your tire pressure. If it gets too low you will probably bend up the new ones.

I don't know where you are in Pennsylvania, but an hour north of Philly is the Wheel Collision Center. They do miracles with damaged rims. It'll cost between $100 and $150 or so but you'll be happy with the results. And as far as "it will never be the same as it was from the factory" that just isn't true. They straightened one wheel for me that came new with 7 balancing weights on it. After I dented the rim and brought it to WCC, the wheel now only needs two weights. Of course, the mounting of the tire plays into the amount of balancing weights, but this place has high standards and does quality work.

Here's WHEEL COLLISION CENTER website.

On the other hand, I'd look in the Black Market on this site or on eBay for a set of TL rims. I've seen plenty of sets go for $500 shipped. Last year I bought four '04 TL rims for $200 and I even picked them up. One of the rims had pretty severe gouges that I got fixed for $100, two of the rims had minor cosmetic scratches and the last rim was in great shape. That's what I'm using this winter for my winter tires.

One of my enkei rims on my accord was slightly cracked and caused the tire to go flat. I had it fixed at a local shop for very cheap. It has been several months and had no problems

hmm

well I already had the dealer replace the rims. This was yesterday--my car was shimmying pretty bad at high speeds----I was sort of in a tough spot and I just wanted it done but I am not happy to spend so much money--this is probbaly the first time in 10 years I know I overpaid for a service.
I was considering just asking for the rims back...maybe keep them as winter tires or something or as a full size spare.(after getting them straightened) Do you think they would have gotten rid of them in a day? I never worked at a dealership so I am not sure how quickly they dispose of things.

you let them keep the bent rim?
Oh man - go and fetch that back!!

First thing I made sure they did was hand that bent boy right back to me when they replaced my rim. Figure If I bend another one - I will head on over to the PA guy and get it fixed as a spare.

GET THAT RIM!!!
