Alot of it is going to depend on the profile of the tire more rubber there is more cushion there will be so yes 18 or 17 with a little more rubber would be better. but you are going to sacrifice looks..What size tire are you running now? 35 series?

I had OEM 17"s, 18" Volks, and 19" Axis wheels, I didnt feel much of a diff with the tire size, suspension made the diff to me. First time I did suspension mods, I installed Eibach pro springs with 18" forged Volk RE-30's, I DIDNT like the ride quality over big bumps or RR tracks. The second time I installed Tein SS coilovers and 19" Axis Hiro wheels, after lowering the car for 1 finger to fit above the tire, and adjusting the Tein SS coilovers, the car rode AWESOME and handles like crazy, but I also installed larger stabilizer bars. Suspension and tire Brand/Model have ALOT to do with the ride.

What were ur tire size for the 20s?
if u get 17.. might as well stay stock or type s
18 - u can run 235 or 245/40. my gf has 225/40, noticable difference compared to stock but not uncomfortable for daily
19 - u'll prob be pushing ur luck since you alrdy dnt like the feel of 20s
