Brake pads
#5
I put Hawk ceramics on my AT two weeks ago - they feel a little more linear than the OEM pads. There doesn't seem to be as much brake dust, which is supposed to be a trait of these pads.

Haven't had any issues with the Hawk ceramics. A little more expensive but worth it.

Mine haven't squeeked yet, although I have heard many complaints. I have seen advice that you should use an anit-squeek product on the back of the brake pads (comes in a pink bottle). I bought a bottle when I did my brakes, but when I read the directions, it said it was only for non-shimmed pads. The AT pads are shimmed, so I just used brake grease. I wonder if some of the people who have had problems with squeeking have used the "pink stuff" on their shimmed pads.

Did you use the stock stainless shims from the OEM pads? I didn't.. maybe I should install them to see if they reduce or eliminate the reverse squeaking.
As for dusting, I estimate that the Rotex pads reduce front wheel dusting by 80 to 90% over the stock pads.

I was just at the dealership. Said that set of pads (special series from Brembo) were about $180 and they reccomended getting rotors turned at that time to preserve the life of rotors and resist premature warping. Total job would be $340 (he quoted me).
I know that I can pull rotors off myself to get machined at autoparts store for about $40 each. Seems worth it to me to get my hands dirty.
