Blow out tire and Broken Rim

I was on my way to the beach last friday and I had a tire blow out. At least
that was what I thought. When I changed the tire I just happen to take a look
at the inside of the Rim. To my surprise part of the rim had broken off and hit
the tire. I am thinking that the rim breaking was why the tire blew out. Anyway
long story short I had to drive to Wilmington NC where the nearest Acura Dealer.
The replaced the rim for free but made me pay for the tire. As soon as I find out how to post pictures I will

What the hell...I've ever seen that happen to a wheel before and I thought I dealt with a lot of wheel problems as the garage.

True, if he could prove it was due to a defective rim. However, the other link I posted in this thread shows similar damage to a rim when another person hit a rock the size of a grapefruit.

Perhaps he did not see the road hazard and BOOM, thought he had a blow out.

It can happen in the blink of an eye. See my thread on Joined the Ruin Tire Club.

The TL rims are very strong, I have hit some nasty pot holes/bumps without any damage. I once hit something in the work van, I JUST got a glimpse of it but had no idea what it was. I hit it with my right front wheel, and it shot over and blew out my left front tire (instantly).
I pulled off the interstate into the first place I could, and 3 other people had flats!

You are not going to see a rim just break like yours, you have to hit something to cause it, although you could hit something and start a crack and have it fail at some point in the future I suppose...

I am thinking that either I or somebody else hit something prevously and it cracked.
I promise you I hit nothing in the road. It was bright daylight on HWY 95. My passengers are I saw nothing in the road.
