Bent a wheel, bought a replacement, now 3=1 color, 1=another

At the risk of being blown up by "Search the threads!!!" replies I'm posting this as I know the topic has been covered before & I'm hoping one of you hyper-knowledgable motorheads can provide a succinct "here's how to solve your problem" type response. I've got an 07 Type-S with stock, gun-metal wheels. Bent one. Car shakes like a cement mixer in 3rd, 4th, 5th on acceleration from about 3k rpms - right where you find yourself on freeway on-ramps and cruising. So I ordered a replacement from an eBay seller, it just came, looks great but is a darker shade. Sux. Its noticeable & there's no way I'll drive around like that. I seem to remember something about paint formula changing some years after 07 (probably another stupid EPA reg) resulting in a different stock color. Short of buying 3 new wheels to match it, what are my options? Is there a place that stocks the older OEM units that someone knows of? What? This is a sucky problem.

Just like the paint on the body of the car, the wheels do fade/change color. As well, batches of wheels can be slightly off in color. Your only solution is to get that 1 wheel refinished to match the other 3 or get all 4 painted. The same happens with bricks, tile and other products!

it happens, D!
not a big deal at all!

Even Acura had two different paint colors for the type-s wheel. one darker shade and one lighter shade.
as csmeance stated, different batches...or different supplier, etc.

and i laughed when you stated that there's no way you're driving it like it is...well, you are! lol

either repaint your wheels or live with it...

I think you're right. I'm going to take it into a local powder coating shop tomorrow and see what they say about either trying to paint the one to match the other three, other three to match the one, or all four.
Drat! There goes the $ I had ear-marked for my next performance mod.

Well, that's an eye of the beholder thing. Its a big deal to me and since its my car, that makes it a big deal. I'm not down with rolling on 3 wheels one color while the 4th is different.

No, I'm not. I'm driving on the bent one. The new one that's a different color is in a box in my trunk.

Is it a new genuine acura wheel? Or a replica? Or a refurb?

well not a big deal for me OP, I am in the same boat as you since 2012. For those of you wonder if its OEM yes its 200% OEM since the wheel came from Delray Acura and yes Honda did change the color some time in late 2007 into 2008. if you notice some 2008 TL-S will have darker color waffle like the one I have.

Mine's a refurb and yeh, as you've just confirmed Roland, its purely eye of the beholder. That's one beautiful looking car you've got there, and if it doesn't bother you - more power to ya, brudda. But I couldn't take it.

The broken wheel has never been taken off. The new one is in a box. There is no tire on it. It just got here yesterday.

Don't know why you're having such a hard time with this one, brudda. The mismatch wheel has never been on the car. It JUST got here. I put it next to the other and can see that its a different color. Its never had a tire mounted on it nor ever been on the car. Its, literally, about 36 hours old (on my watch.) I've had nothing other than the original four since buying the car. Bent a wheel on a pothole over the winter. Ordered replacement which the UPS driver just dropped off yesterday afternoon.

LOL I didn't have much of a choice back then, so my option are limited.

1. Buying 1 wheel with color match but at the seller cut throat price.
2. Buying another 3 OEM wheel to match the color $700 more (oh hell no)
3. Buy after market wheels for better looks (been there done that and I am not looking to dump money to the sea)

I need 1 wheel and I try to look everywhere ebay/craiglist/car-part.com/ A-zine black market and behold everyone with their ULTRA SUPER RARE Type S "waffle". A USED wheel goes for $325 (cheapest i could find at the time) with small curb rash (DA FUC they are smoking?). I end up order with Delray using the Azine code for additional 5% off, I had doing business with them way back in 2005 so they give me another discount. I paid $200 for brand new OEM wheel and the best part is that no more annoying vibration around 75 mph ( I bought the car back in early month 2012 with only 50k miles cost almost $30k), Justnspace seen my car in person before and others member here and yet no one ever mention about the color being off.

Oh, sorry J. Reading truonghthe's post just now has caused me to realize this wasn't directed at me. (I was wondering if we'd been together at a meet or something & I'd just forgotten who you were...so I was playing it off.)

(directed at Truong) So weird that Acura supplied wheels are different colours. The name of the colour should be Kaiser Silver.

(at derrick) A non-matching refurb does not surprise me. What is their return policy?

Brand new wheels are like $300/ea today too.

Its been fairly widely discussed on here that post-2009'ish Kaiser Silver wheels are ALL the newer/darker color due to changes in EPA regs that affected paint manufacture and heaven knows what else. I dunno with certainty & have no desire to get all political here, but given the disposition of the last (presidential) administration's EPA its certainly not all that hard to believe.

I did notice that there was a 08 TL-S that I saw parked which had substantially darker wheels than my 07 wheels...or my friend's 07 wheels.

I can see the difference in both colours from space. So I don't blame you for not putting the odd one on. It would look crazy. And I'm not being funny (for once).

As far as the EPA and politics goes... I think the best recourse to a seemingly out of control EPA is obviously to have their influence stepped back so far that we are all unable to breath or live....but we should all have the same GD gray coloured wheels that we're used to.
