Bent Ronjon rim in two spots, what to do?

OK, today on the way home from Greensboro, I hit a nasty pot hole. It was so loud in the car I knew something had to give. Sure enough, the car had a noise and wobble. Turns out, I bent my right front 18 inch RonJon rim in two different spots. There are no cracks so that is good. Do I try to have it repaired or spend the extra money to have it replaced? I really don't want to spend the 300 for a rim I already have. Also, I put the H&R sport springs in about 10k miles ago. I felt like the car is a little floaty and not so tight. So I figured the struts were just about spent. The good news to all of this is I ordered Koni Yellows today . The bad news is the rim. What can you suggest I do about the rim? Has anyone here had a bent rim repaired? If so, how has it held up? Thanks in advance.

it depends on how bad the bents are. minor ones can be fixed without any problem. any pics of the bent rim?

I bent one of my rims too but I got it repaired. It cost me $150 to fix, its way cheaper than paying $340 for a brand new rim and its holding up pretty good. I got it repaired at Wheels America, go to fixrim.com and check it out.

I need to find a place to fix two rims (SSR GT7) as well - aren't the roads in N Carolina just great? Mine are just a couple of flat spots on the inside edge, so nothing as bad as the pictures on fixrim.com. I like this site because they provide pics of their process http://www.wheeltechnologies.com/faqorder.html Sobering article about repairs http://www.boston.com/cars/news/arti...urn_on_safety/

Yeah, the guy I contacted today said it could be fixed for 150.00. That must be the standard rate. I am working the weekend in Sterling,VA (drove the wifes lexus up here) and I am going to pull the wheel off Monday to have it fixed. I will snap a few pictures of it to show you how bad it is. Like some of you said, it's worth the money to repair it then to replace it. I will know more on Monday.

I took the rim off today and I put the spare on. I am not going to drive it until I get the rim back. Here it is and notice where the yellow chalk is, bent in two spots. I am getting it fixed in the morning. The spare rim sure is funny looking. Does the cars with the auto trans have this type of spare?

must be a big pot hole to bend a wheel twice.

that looks like a manual/TypeS spare.

It is a manual and the pot hole was large. I couldn't avoid it. It was a very loud noise. The tire place said it could be fixed. So I will find out more in the morning.

Yes, sorry I went to NY for the weekend and went to the auto show. Had a blast and the cars were sick as always. I go the rim fixed. Firestone in Matthews on independence took the tire off the rim and sent it out to be fixed. It cost me 175 with the mounting and balancing. The car drives like a dream again and there are no issues with the rim. Already put about 1500 miles on it with no issues. Here is the picture of the rim bent back. The yellow spots are where the rim was bent. Well worth it if the rim is in good shape. If the rim was scratched up, I would have spent the extra 150 and replaced it. I hope this helps.

Thanks, having a post about your experience as well as having a local option is great! Any idea who they sent it to? How long was the turnaround?

No idea who they sent it too. The turnaround was about 24-36 hrs. Good luck.

Looks like they simply pressed it back out. I wonder how hard that would be to do ourselves? 3 of my four Privat Netz each have a minor bend form the roads here but my father has a press in his garage. I wonder if this could be a DIY one weekend? Primary reason I wonder is because the Netz themselves are only about $175 each brand new so it really doesn't make a lot of sense to spend the same dollars on fixing the current ones.

I am sure I could have tried and yes the money was a little steep to fix it but I needed the car back asap. I would think if you had an extra rim to play with, I would have tried but getting a ronjon rim from ny and having it shipped would have taken too long for me.

I agree that it makes sense for the RonJon wheels (and others) that are more pricey. I was just wondering if anyone had tried to DIY on one of these previously.
