Bald Tires

So here I am looking at my bald Bridgstone tires after only 20,000 miles. I don't drive like a maniac. Does anybody else have this problem? Next question is what would be a good replacement tire. 2004 TL/NAVI

Hmmm. Bald after 20K. Did you rotate them? Where is the wear on the tire? Is it evenly across the tread? If it's on on the inside or outside, then it indicates an alignment issue. Either way, be glad you are getting new tires. The general opinion of the board members is to look at (1)Michelin Pilot A/S, (2) Falken EX512s, (3)Toyo Proxes 4s, and (4)Pirelli PZero Neros. Do a search of this forum and you will see how good they all are. I know I will go with the Toyos since they are reasonable priced and don't have the tendency to flatspot.

What are we calling bald? My 2004 TL just turned 19,000 miles yesterday and I have never rotated my tires yet and I measure '6' on the front and '7' on the back (what is that in mm?)

Stock tires, stock rims - well, one rim was replaced after a pothole ate it - but original tires.

Either way can't wait till they get replaced - probably with Falkens - at this rate next year.

I have an '04 TL 6MT A-Spec Navi. My tires are bald only after 10k miles. I've taken my TL to the track twice. Each lap takes about 1-2 mins for a total of 1.5 miles. I've gone probably about 50-60 laps total. The rest of the miles I put on the street and I don't drive too agressive. I'm getting Continental Conti extremes next. I've had them on my '03 TL type-S and I've taken em to the track for fun and they grip ok considering they are all seasons. They are great in the snow and in the rain. Plus they are not too expensive and they last a lot longer than those Bridgestones. It's a good all around tire I think.

RE: Bald Tires

I have rotated them twice. The tread wore evenly across the tires. No allignment issues at all.

I have less than 10,000 miles and my rear tires are almost bald. The fronts look new. They have worn evenly across in the rear. Brought to 2 dealers and said there`s nothing they can do.
I use a set of Yokos in the summer, so rotating the EL-42s wasn`t nesessary.

Does ACURA know about this rear tire wear?

I have 13,000 miles and my tires according to the tech were "technically bald". I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to assessing wear on a tire, but the side treads have really worm down and I have a crack on the tread of my right front tire. I don't drive 'excessive' but I've had two shunts that easily could have damaged the tires.

Around 11,000 miles, I noticed that the breaks on my car seemed weak but the service dept said my breaks were in great condition and it was likely due to my wearing tires...

Are you kidding...20,000 miles would be great ! My Yoko's lasted <7000 miles . I'll be happy if my Falken ST115's last >15,000 !

You know what "they" say...

treadwear = 1/FUN

Why have none of you "geniuses" on here asked him WHICH tires he has on his car?

Matt, if you have the HPT tires (i.e. Brigestone RE030's) then you've gotten about typical wear from them and they are due for replacement. In fact, ANY soft compound tire (like the Proxes, Pilot Sports, or RE030's) will ALL only last a comparitively short duration. This is because they are DESIGNED to give you the best traction possible. This traction comes at the cost of tread life. If you want a long wearing tread, the performance is going to be worse (i.e Spinning rubber or bad ride because they are harder, etc). You can buy a 60K continential tire but IMHO you would be an idiot to put it on this car. If you MUST have 40K miles, try out the Michilen MVX's. They are a good tire that give realitively long life without as much sacrafice to performance. Of course, their price is reflective of that value.

rear tire wear

After 23,000 mile and NO tire rotation 3 of our tires look ok but the drivers rear is worn heavily on the outside. I complained to the dealer that the car pulled to the left at 3000 miles and they put on that rack and told me that was normal. Sounds like there is an issue with rear tire wear. I usually do not rotate but just replace the fronts when they go. I am suprised that the rear tire wore first!!!! It is the wifes car and she babies it.

I just replaced mine last week at 20,000. After reading a few reviews, I went with PZero Neros. I ordered them from TireRack.com. Got them 1 day later delivered.
