Another TPMS Question

Hey guys,

First, I've searched. I just want to verify

So basically I'm getting new wheels and I'm almost sure that the new (well used, but new for me) wheels/tires do not have TPMS. Can I get a company like Discount Tire to transfer them for me, if so, how much is a good price? Never really paid attention too them. Where are they located? I know you can transfer them, but in the threads I found they said you have to transfer the battery which will cost extra labor instead of just buying a new one? Well the dealer installed 4 new TPMS sensors for me a year and a half ago, so I don't think I need a new battery.

LMK Thanks!

No battery needed. The TPMS transfer is very basic. Unscrew, then screw back on. Done.

It's not tough at all. Depends on the rims that you get it might not sit flush. Some have banded it. While others did it normal. This is what it looks like http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A139T64LTDCRO8
very easy to do.

Norm is to just change them over without any additional expense.
After being on all cars since 2006 model year, I would assume most shops know the procedure for demounting and mounting tires without causing damage to the sensor, but I've seen some that some gorilla had tightened too tight and when removed, the seal was fratured or even crossthreaded, but the norm is no problem. The problem arrises when the "new" or different from factory wheels can't accept the sensor do to the difference in wheel construction, then an alternate method of attachment needs to be used.

Have the shop look at the wheels beforehand to see if they feel the sensors can be switched over without need for modification.

Thanks!

They are G37 wheels and they are supposed to be a direct fit.

Where are the TPMS located, I'm guessing on the tire? I've never bothered looking for them until now.

For me i think getting a set of new sensor and mount them in the new rim is probably the best way to go. Just in case down the line if it snows or something (i dont know if houston gets any snow) but you can always swap rims only instead of taking them to the tire shop and have them dismount and remount again and again! But thats just me!

Oh and where you see the valve stem on your TL rims that is where the sensor is!

Don't you have too separate the tire and wheel to get the tpms out?

Yes sir that is why I said to buy new sensor, the one that is for 06 only, and not 07-08 because i think they changed sensors in there so the computer in the 06 will not sense the sensors, But i can be wrong on that so dont qoute me on that. I'm sure someone with expertise would chime in and help ya.

A set of sensors can be bout now for less than 100 bucks. So all you do is when you get new sensor take them along with your rims and tires to the tire place of choice, and have them install them. So later on if you need to swap rims over all you have to do is take the rims out and install the other rim.

The mid display will say 58 on all four tires but will reset within 30 min. or so!

But i have an 06 too and first time i bought rims i had to go through all that. Thanks to the acurazine community!!
