5MM spacers....Are longer studs necessary??

Just wanted to space it very minimally, just 5mm. Are longer stud really necessary? I know it is VERY important if it is 10mm+. I feel that 5mm is almost negligible. Will I get a vibration? Anyone try this?

I didn't want to risk it so I'll be buying 10mm with built in studs. But from what I've heard on here, you should be okay.

ahhh yes, I feel like an ass because I just found a thread that answers my question. Seems like the consensus is "no"......Has anyone tried and found that is IS necessary to have longer studs?

Do I need one that is hubcentric or will it wobble otherwise? 64.1mm, am I correct? Does it have to be secured onto the hub or is it simple held in place with the tightness between the hub and wheels created by the tightening of the lugs?

geesh I sound like a noobie, lol.

I have 5mm in the front and rear and have experienced no problems.

You should definitely get H&R hubcentric spacers tho, no cheapy crap ones.

Of course anything +5mm would require studs, I wouldn't chance it in that case! I just feel 5mm is so close to nothing, it's almost like a piece of cardboard in there. I'm quite sure the lugs will get plenty of turns. Thanks for the offer on the spacers but I don't want anything thicker than 5mm.

We are all speculating or guessing here. I guess what I am really asking is whether anyone has ever done 5mm spacers without studs and ever experienced any negative effects?

I also wonder whether the requirement that something should "hubcentric" is dependent on the hub design or the wheel design? If it is the hub then nobody would ever require rings but I have heard of many requiring in certain applications. Why is this?

OK so the spacers are on and yep they are as thin as cardboard and hardly make a difference. I still get about 3 turns out of the lugs and it is plenty tight. I'll retorque after a few miles, should be fine.

My only prob is the tires are rubbing more now........ughh, I always ask for trouble... 1 nagging problem after another....

Hehehe didn't do it for the wider stance really. It makes the rear look a LIL wider. Camber changed negligibly. Ordinarily a 5mm spacer does nothing except to allow so additional clearance for the wheel or brakes....I did it to fit a mod something to do with my rear brakes........lol, I think Al knows what I am talking about, just haven't advertised about here on AZine. I raised the rear 5mm already and I don't want to go higher, it's sitting perfectly. My fenders are rolled already, I'm goin outside right now as a matter of fact to see where it's rubbing and I'll make small adjustments to clear the tire. It's really only 1 tire the other is OK unless people are sitting in the back. It's real annoying because it rubs on every little dip on the road. I will take some pics, but I promise it ain't anything you guys haven't seen already.

I ran 5mm spacers all around with no extended studs. It was fine. Just make sure your lugs are torqued down correctly.

My rear fenders are already rolled but I still rub. When I removed the rear wheels and looked around I can see where it is rubbing. When the car is lowered most of us know that it causes negative camber...Now this is not a bad thing, at least when it comes to rubbing issues. It helps the tires tuck in a bit. Putting the spacers in negated that benefit. OK but that is not all! What most people don't realize is that CASTER also changes! That's the reason why when you look at side pics of a lot of our lowered cars the wheels look off center in the wheel well.

Well my fender was not rubbing where you would think it would rub. It was rubbing more to the REAR part of the fender. I took thick layers of duct tape and a metal chisel to hammer over and bent the fender a bit. (I know hammering a fender is a big no-no but I didn't feel like driving out to pay for another fender roll.) I risked cracking the paint of course but all was well, I was careful, and nothing happened. As a matter of fact there were other tiny areas that were rolled previously (With a professional fender roller mind you) that have ended up cracking slightly over time. They weren't cracked when they were rolled....I dunno, temperature changes?? Well I sealed all rubbed cracked areas with silicone.....I know that is temporary and won't last the sandblasting from the wheel well. I might have to buy some of that rubberized undercoating spray to inhibit rust/damage there.

Well anyways, bottomline; I got spacers on and NO rubbing!

OK some pics as requested:

Spacers are so thin. Really not much of a difference

Now that is as flush as you can get! PERFECTION!

That's my kind of beautiful

You are rubbing in the rear fender near the bumper... that's where most of the TLs Rub... I don't think that the dude that rolled your fenders pushed that section flat... because the roller doesn't go that low... you actually have to heat it and hit it with a mallet... Do it yourself rocky... it's very simple...

Good Luck and as always our car is just DOPE!!!

U r 100% correct man! He didn't do that rear section at all! I only have a rubber mallet not a metal one.....Besides I didn't want to make hammer marks and chip the paint. I took thick layers of duct tape and hammered hard with a regular hammer on a flat chisel. This way it would chip or damage anything and merely bend the metal. It wasn't easy this way but my fenders got bent without any damage. I still have to redo a couple areas, still a slight rub at high speed or with people in the back. I need to do the fronts too in certain areas. I am just concerned that the areas that were rubbing grinded down to sheetmetal. Wheel well areas are areas rust likes....water likes to sit there and come winter with the salt roads....Gotta do something about it now.

Man I definitely would if I lived down south. I slammed the car a few weeks ago and it looked SWEET! But it was ridiculous to drive around like that. My tires were rubbing like crazy, especially if I had people in it, lol. I almost had to kick them out. And driving through NYC.....Forget it!! Unless you are from around here you will not realize how unbelievably bad some of these roads are! There is no exaggeration.

I was in the Bronx the other day driving like 15mph and my car was hitting everything. At one point my J-pipe scrapped!! I had enough, that is way too close to the oil pan!! Tires are sliced to all hell.

Last week I raised the rear 5mm and the front about 10mm. Right now it is barely enough to drive somewhat normal. My car is a daily driver doing 150 miles a day. I have to live with this compromise. Gotta move to Miami for this car!

Yesterday some girl in front of me pulled too far into an intersection and backed up into me. It wasn't a hard hit but that's it! I am buying a beater.....maybe an ol GTI just for commuting. I'll slam the car and leave it in the garage for weekends. I put too much into it for it to get beat up.

Rocky your car looks sick with Faiz's old wheels. I was so tempted to buy those. BTW I rub in that same spot in the back like near where the rear fender meets the rear bumper. I have rolled it twice and pounded it super flat and cut the tab and it still rubs back there lol
