Exclamation 40 series tires for 19" WHEELs

Hello TL Members-

I got an 05 TL and I'm thinking about getting Axis Penta 19s (19x8.5F) (19x9.5R) but do not want to go with 30-35 series. Really want to do 40 series, since I've had horrible riding experience with 35s in the past. Does anyone know if this will cause the tires to rub? I don't plan on dropping the TL.

If i can't do this, then I will probably do the 18s" Penta Maxis (fake staggered). Please advise!!!

The series is a percentage of the tire width. No matter what, to put on a similar tire size to stock, you're going to lose quite a bit of side wall. I think the side wall goes from about 4 inches to about 3. Theres no way around it unless you run tires that are simply way too tall.

I'm willing to go with wider tires, if that's what your saying as long as they fit. But I would rather go with 2##/40-19 then 2##/35/19. The guys at the tire shop said their computer suggests 245/35/19, to match closest to the stock ride (they think it will rub). But I'm wondering if i go 2##/40-19, if they would fit or give me any issues driving, turning, bumps, etc.

Thanks!!

I can't answer if they are going to rub or not because I think just as much as the size of the profile matters, so does the selected rims, offset and width. So you gotta take all that into consideration. If it doesn't rub then, just make sure you are aware that your speedometer will be off slightly, and there is no way around that.

I too have 19's and thought about it, but decided to go with 35's and depending on where you live, you can either notice the drop in ride quality or not. For example when I was in Miami for 4 months, I seriously forgot that I was dropped and on 19's but as soon as I came back to NY, it was game over, the TL turned into a go cart.

I believe the offset are +35mm (19x8.5) and +40 (19x9.5). About the speedometer reading I am aware that when going 60, I would really be going 64-65mph. Of course I want the car to look gorgeous, but at the same time I want to enjoy driving the car. I'm in LA and it's hard to predict what type of rode you will encounter. Most of them are pretty bad with crack holes and large on ramp parking structures.

Know anything about the 18x8 Axis Penta Maxis? I know they'll fit w/out rubbage, but its hard to understand how an 8" wide wheel can provide a 3" lip. I tried researching it, but not much info out there about it.

Thanks, Please feel free to join the convo people!!

What does "rofl" mean?

Wouldn't 215 be too short/small for 8.5"/9.5" wide?

Thanks!!

1010tires.com has a tire size calculator. Plug in the stock tire size 235/45-17 and then mess around with some other ones to see the differences. It'll give you sidewall heights too. You'll see that no matter what, if you're going to run a bigger rim, you're going to need less sidewall...unless you put on truck tires.

I was on http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html and 245/35-19 would match up closest to stock. My question is can I get away with 245/40-19 on a 19"x9.5" wheel with an +40mm offset (about 1.4" higher then stock) without it giving me any issue such as rubbing. I do know that my speed will read 5.5% off.

Trick tires?
