3G TL owners w/stock wheels...What tire size/brand do you have?

Ok so most of us know that our stock tire size should be 235/45-17.

I just bought some new tires today...I got some BFGoodrich g-Force Sport size 245/40-17. These are a little bit wider and a little bit lower profile...car seems to drive the same although I do feel like it has a better grip on the road now.

For those of you with stock wheels...what tire size/brand are you using?

I think this thread might help others determine which tires to get when time comes. I did a search earlier today - before purchasing tires but I did not find anything recent.

I've been using Mastercraft tires with 235/45R17
94 W as the size... they've been working decently for me, I've only put about 3k miles on them so we'll see

There are a million tire threads to be found, and to anyone that might be in the "sound of my voice", the popular and should I say my recommendation is to go with the 245/45-17 at 25.7" compared to the stock size 235/45-17 25.3". The 245/40-17 is extremely small in diameter and, sorry to say, might look like doughnuts on the TL as they are only 24.7" in height, but if you like the look, that's all that counts, but just wanted to reply so others might read, and realize the difference. Many use the 255/40-17 at 25", I cringe when writing this, although the recommended wheel width is 8.5" for this size, they don't seem to care and do an install anyway, but remember, as they are even smaller in diameter when compared to the 235/45-17, the tire to body gap will increase.

I also tried to find some info on tire sizes a long time ago and there were a lot of people using the 255/40/17, and some using the 245/45/17. I chose to do the same as the OP, and went with the 245/40/17. It does increase the wheel gap, but if you plan on dropping in the future, should b fine.

Just keep in mind, even if dropping the car, the gap is increased not only at the top, but also front and rear with the small diameter tires.

Thanks, i never really thought about that. The percentage that it is off isn't to much to mess with the speedo, correct?

Any Pics? I saw some in the H&R sport spring thread awhile back, didn't know if those were the upgraded tires.? Nice Type-S, and perfect color I plan to order the same springs, to go with the Koni's I have(sittin in the box). I may have to pick a different tire size next time.

235/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza 960 A/S Pole Positions!

Some of the best tires I have had, and much better than the POS Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus...

I'm probably going to need some all season tires soon. It looks like 245/45/17's for me (thanks Turbonut). But should it be Bridgeston, Michelin or Continentals?

235/45-17 Yokohama Advan S.4 all-seasons here.

I may try a summer tire next time around since I'm in coastal SoCal-- no snow, no ice, not much rain.

AJ doesn't like the Pilot Sport Plus A/S. Road noise if I recall correctly.

I'm starting to get some too I think, but not annoying at this point.

If you get a chance, take a look at the specs on the Bridgestone 960, they are made small with only a 8.2" wide tread (245/45-17). I know at times I get hung up on these small items, but hey, would I rather have a tire that has a nice wide tread, certainly. Actually I wouldn't own another Bridgestone tire, but that's just my opinion. For comparison, a W4s at 9.2" or S.4 8.7" are much wider. Michelin doesn't specify a tread width, but I certainly think that it must be wider than the Bridgestone, but haven't checked. Maybe if I get a chance I'll check the tread width of the Michelin.
Contenental-No Go.
Out of the three, looks like Michelin's might be in the offering. The S.4's are fantastic tires, but they do flat spot in cold weather after sitting, and that is annoying. I have these on our TL in naturally the 245/45-17.

I've got 255/40 Nitto NT05 on the stock rims.

This is as low of a profile as I would go whether for looks or performance.

As for tires, if you're looking for dry performance, wider is nice but the rubber compound is going to make the largest difference.

I'm running an aggressive tire with a 200 treadwear rating, judging by the amount of wear at over 8,000 miles, these are about as low as you want to go and still get acceptable life out of them.

As for those BFG G-force Sports, they start out fairly quiet but they get very loud over time. I ended up selling mine in the 255/40 size with well over half the tread left because I could barely carry on a conversation inside of the car. Performance is ok but just like the same tires on my friend's Mustang, they started cracking after a year and the sidewalls are unnecessarily stiff. What I mean by that is the ride is noticably stiffer but without the corresponding steering sharpness.

I'm being tough on these tires, performance was better than average, at the rate they were wearing at I probably would've gotten a good 40,000 miles out of them if not more. But the noise drove me crazy. The sidewall stiffness wasn't *that* bad but I went from the G-force KDW-2 to the Sports and then to the Nittos. The Nittos blow the Sports away in steering sharpness but to be fair, I bet some of that is due to the large tread blocks of the NT05. The KDW-2s also had more sharpness but the noise was about twice as bad as the Sports.

Not road noise at all! The tires were pretty good for the first 10K miles until they nearly killed us! They have a 40+K mile warranty but in 10K they were literally BALD. The car lost traction at highway speeds and started sliding across traffic lanes.

I went to Discount Tire where we got them and they were even surprised. They called up michelin and michelin offered a paltry 300 dollars towards another set that would cost another 2000 dollars! (they were brand new at the time). I told michelin to keep it and got the Continental DW Tires. They have 20K on them and have a decent amount of tread left for being a Max Performance Summer Tire.

What are the stock size wheels on an '08 TL 3.2, 17 x 8? Looking to get new wheels, and the dealership put new Bridgestones on before I bought it, so I want the same size wheels so I can keep using these brand new tires.

Thanks all-

I have upgraded to A-Spec 18 x 8.5, but before doing so I had 255/40 R17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s on my stock rims.

1. Is 245/45 an acknowledged manufacturer alternate size? I ask because the warranty refers to "failure caused by modifying the vehicle, or installing parts not authorized by Acura?"

2. How much will this throw off the speedometer and/or can the speedo be calibrated to the tires?

3. There has been no rubbing because of the additional roughly 1/2" diameter?

I am running 245/45 17 Winter tires on my Type S rims and have had no issues whatsoever - no rubbing with the 245/45 17 or the aforementioned 255/40 17 I used to have. I'm running 245/45 17 for Winter tires only because I got a good deal on them otherwise I would have stayed with the stock 235/45 17 (narrower is better in the snow). My suspension is completely stock.
"acknowledged alternate size"? Not sure how to answer you here, but you are only changing the tire width by 10mm..... Can't say with 100% certainty that you won't have a service department give you a hard time because of this, but I'm having a tough time imagining you would or anyone would even notice. This is not as invasive a mod or change as changing the shocks / springs / RSB / CAI / etc...
Overall diameter change is only .32", but to answer your question no rubbing.

Hope this helps -

Try this link as it has scaled images, but not actual pix on cars. You would need your fellow Aziners to help you out there. My Winter tires/rims are stored away -

Have been thinking about 215 50 17. They are just over 3/4 inch more narrow footprint.
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=false&cs=215

About $148 each after rebate if you call them and they knock $5 off each.

Im thinking these will last longer than the oem size since they are a little narrow.

I guess you must like the stretched tire look as that size is recommended for a 6"-7.5" wheel width. Of course this never has stopped anyone from putting smaller or larger tires then what is recommended on the 8" wide wheel.

So basically it is not a good combination for the wider tl oem wheels. The 215 50 17 is the oem size for a cl-s.

PLEASE don't stretch. Aside from looking terrible, I think stretching is far worse than putting a 255/40 on our wheel.

245/45-17 is the size to run! I just ran a set of these in Continental DWS's and it was great. It made the car look a lot better too. Wider tires and less fender gap. I'm due for new tires and I'll be running the same setup again.

18inch A-Spec

Do you think 245/45 would be ok for the 18" A-spec

I don't know what your definition of "ok" is but using that width and profile tire on an 18" rim, will have your speedo way off. If you want to stay closer to OEM size and go up to the 18" size, you would be better off going 245/40/18.
Use the tire size calculator in the link I posted above. It gives you all the deltas from the OEM specs.

2nd set of Continental DWS on my car only thing I probably will by for my 06 TL barely driven, but when it is its "driven". I was running 235/45/17 now my DWS 06 compound are 245/40/17. they are quite responsive, aside from cushioning, they feel great. If I give my wife the keys my next set will be 245/45/17.
