255/40-18 on Aspec?

I've wondered regarding the fitment of 255's as well. I just went to 245's with the full A-SPEC and they are fine with no rubbing.

your speedometer will be off a little... it will be 2.8% slow...
so when your speedo says 60MPH you are actually going 61.7MPH


for 265/35/18
it would be near perfect
it will be only .1% fast...
so when your speedo says 60MPH you are actually going 59.9MPH

you might want to check your math but the basic point is correct. If it would fit 265 would give decent rim protection.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow and then try to post. I have never posted anything to this forum so it may take a while. It is true I do not have the A-spec shocks that will lower the car 1/2". As far as the 265/35 I would go that route next time if it fits. I think there might be more rim protection with that set up.

On other cars I ran 205/50/16 on 7 and a 225/50/16 on 7. The 225 after years has no curb scrap while the 205 did. Both cars tires hit the curb while parking.

I took the pictures and I tried to post pictures last weekend but to no avail. I will try this weekend again. I did a search on how to post but it wasn't helpful. Can anyone point me to the right information so I can post? Thanks.

I am able get two fingers from the top of the tire to the wheel well. One finger in the back. The spacing looks perfect IMO.

Obviously these checks are key, you also have to look how the tire clears the wheell well when you turn the wheel lock to lock.

They are Michelin Pilot Sports. Tire Rack sells the for about $250 each.

hondafan, you have the Aspec suspension as well? any rubbing with the 255/40-18's?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get new tires for my gunmetal ASPEC rims 18x8.5. Just wanted to confirm that 255/40/18 will be fine? How many others are running this setup? I'm looking to get the Pirelli P zero nero M+S. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

So I have the 2004 Aspec rims that are wider, so the 255/40's will be fine right?

I have the wider Aspec rim with Michelin Pilot Sport 255/40/18 same as Honda Fan. There is no rubbing at all. Plus having a wider tire on the car looks better IMHO.

Just to clear things up, I do have the A-spec suspenson and the 255 does rub under extreme conditions. I took a downhill 360* freeway interchange (at 75 mph) that had a pretty high degree of camber and did manage to hear a faint rub from the front right. Under normal conditions they won't rub, but word of warning any 255 that you put on the car will be much noiser than the stock 235/45/17.

I love the looks & performance of the 255 40 18, but I have to believe the 235 40 18 on the 18x8 inch rim will yield a much quieter ride.

One other thing is that the 255 is a pretty expensive tire and I've found that they are only good for about 12k miles so make sure your budget can handle the $1000 it takes to play with the 255's as they will likely need to be replaced every year, unless you don't drive much

I think the noise level of the tire has a lot to do with the hardness of the rubber. I have the Michelin Pilot Sport and I think it is the best tire I've ever bought. They are quite and wear very well. I have 18,000 miles and they look almost new.

I have to disagree with you bud. Although I do believe the the Michelin Pilot sport is a great tire. It by no means is a quiet tire. By the end of summer I'm more than ready to take the sports off and put my 17 Pirelli P6's back on as I can't take the noise any more.

I think the tire noise has more to do with the width/wear patterns than the hardness of the tire compound.

I don't know how you are getting 18k out of your Pilots and having them still look new. I'm good for about 12k max before I hit the wear bars. I guess you are driving pretty straight roads.

It has been my experience that the TL is harder on tires than my s2000 was.

My ES-100 has about 20K and i'd say it's about 1/2 gone. i drive 40 miles a day on the jersey shitty road and i don't take corners ez.

we had this discussion about tire wear and alignment a while back. you don't happen to have alignment issue by chance do you? unless you drive extremely hard (autocross like) everyday, 12K seems a bit low to me. ???

I decided to take one of my favorite roads a little quicker than normal today and the rubbing was pretty loud. Lots of switchbacks and it rubbed on both sides on every turn. I was going up hill at 45-55 mph when most cars do 20 mph. The hill is steep and the rubbing started as soon as I initiated the turn. If you don't push your car don't worry about the rub. I like to ocassionally drive mine like the engineers at Honda made it to be driven and the high positive loads on the front corners is presenting some small issues.

I think I have given up on the 265/255s too even though I don't have the aspec. I think I want a quieter ride more than I want maximum wheel protection or better handling. (I never actually got the 265s yet I'm just planning for when these ones that came with the car wear out..)

What brand and treadwear would you go with for maximum quietness with a 245/40 18?


Also, have you figured out where the rubbing is on the tire? Is it the width or the diameter that is the problem?

Jeez guys,
I think hondafans made it very clear. The A-spec suspension does not affect wheel travel, just ride height. In extreme case you're gonna rub when the wheel stuffs and you're in a turn, A-Spec or not. Probably won;t be as frequent with stock suspension as you have that extra 3/4" of "ride clearance".

What hasn't been addressed is that 2005+ A-Spec wheel are only 8", so that extra 1/2 of clearance might make all the difference.

Either way, it takes some pretty extreme condition to make a very minor rub i the plastic. If I cant' find some affordable 255/35's I'm gonna go 255/40.

Well I do have some good news to report. After taking the front tires off and examaning the tires and wheel wells I could find no evidence of any rubbing, so I must apologize for spreading misinformation. All I can attribute what I thought was tire rub was actually the VSA kicking in and adding a little extra tire squeal/vibration that was confused for tire rub from the drivers seat. So 255's will work without any problems on either suspension and they do offer maximum protection for the 8.5" A-spec wheel.

I've have seen some pretty good reviews on the Avon Summer Tire and may try that next as it does appear that I will be lucky to get 12k miles out of my Pilot Sports.
