235/55/17?

Hey guys, so I've been doing a lot of reading on here lately about tires and suggestions from other members about which tire to choose and why they thought it was the best option and checked out tirerack.com, etc. Thanks to you fellow members, Consumer Reports rating and TR.com's rating I finally chose the Pirelli Pzero Nero A/S M+S...and just had them installed this evening with the alignment and everything done. After driving home I wanted to make sure that they were the correct tires (there wasn't a lot of lighting in the parking lot and I didn't have a flash light on hand) I saw that they were indeed the correct tires but noticed that the markings on the side said:

235/55/17

And from all the posts/stickies I see that a lot of people have chose from 235 & 245 but couldn't find a good search on 45's v. 55's and now I'm wondering "what the fuck?" I see that tirerack has that size for much cheaper and I'm wondering now...will this affect any performance, etc in my vehicle at all?

Thanks if this was a repeated question, or a dumb one at that...I wasn't able to find much information. I also went into the stickied thread 'Will this wheel/tire fit?" but noticed a lack of responses and was hoping for a better turn out here.

Again thank you for your time!

No question is a dumb question as that is how we all learn, but the Pirelli 235/55-17 tires stand 27.1" tall, or about 1 1/2" larger in diameter than the OE Michelins. If not and overly aggressive driver (sidewall flex), they won't present a problem, other than looking quite large on the TL. If you don't like the tires and they were sent by error, contact the Rack, but if they were ordered by error guess it's a done deal.

The generic answer is more comfortable, less performance.

Awesome, thanks guys! Yeah they were special ordered by my local installer. I told them 235/45/17's and I guess they just overlooked it? I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can get them changed out for the 45's at no cost since it is their fault...but I know I'll some how get screwed on this deal.

Yeah they do, and wow thats a nice little comprised chart.

So pretty much the mechanic blamed me for ordering the wrong tire size, when he was the one at fault.

Does anyone have 55's on their Acura TL? Would any burn or rub occur? I don't want to have to have the ride height changed just because the mechanic is an incompetent idiot...who won't refund me or get me the new tires.

Sounds like I'll be hitting up the Better Business Bureau, ugh.
