Thoughts on if a 235/55/17 tire will fit on the 06 Base wheels?
Can get a great deal on michelin x-ice tires in this size for winter..but not sure if they'll fit property in the wheel well.
Thanks !

First, let me start by stating I wouldn't consider this size, even if they were free, too big.
This is a size that has not been mentioned before, or at least not that I have seen, but let's put it in perspective. They are about 2.5" larger in diameter than the OE Michelin 235/45 as well as the alternate replacement 245/45-17, so they will be huge on the TL. This means that the tire will extend 1.25" all around the circumference, so to me it’s not even worth the trouble of checking for clearance issues, especially when turning.
Once again, I'd look for some other size that would be more practical on the TL.

I figure if people get away with lowering 2.25" and more, a tire that has 1.25" more circumference may not be so bad. The only way I would consder these are if they're a dedicated winter tire which it sounds like they are. They're not guaranteed to fit but I say there's a chance.

the problem is that when you lower the car, the fender moves down. With increasing the tire size, it increases in ALL directions so it can rub against the wheel wells while turning!Originally Posted by I hate cars
