20,000 miles. Michelin MXM4's done!

So I got my tire checked at oil change. I only have 20,000 miles on this car and Michelin has 4/32th remaining on front and 5/32th in the back. My co-workers are suprised since some of them commutes 50 miles a day and has 40,000 miles on their cars.

Is it all because of my driving? I don't brake hard and tire has been rotated only once. It must been all the stop and go traffic since I live in downtown.

You should have gotten an easy 40K miles out of em. These tires are designed for long life. I got 50K on mine.

The MXMs are W speed-rated tires, so I wouldn't expect more than 30K out of them in the best circumstances. Their treadwear rating is 300, which sounds optimistic for a 168-mph rated tire.
A few things will decrease wear and maximize tire life: proper inflation, proper alignment and rotation of tires.
Underinflation will increase tire wear, so make sure you are at least running 32F/32R in a 5A or 35F/32R on a 6M-- I treat the Acura-recommended cold tire pressures as a minimum and run 36/33 or thereabouts on my 5A. Since you're in Canada, you need to check the tire pressures more frequently-- maybe once per week-- since you have more outside temperature variation (which affects tire pressure) than those of us in SoCal or Florida.
You don't mention odd tire wear, so it sounds like your alignment is good. Your TL should have had tires rotated at least twice by now at 20K, though.
One other thought: certain road surfaces will cause more wear, like gravel and concrete will wear tires more than asphalt/blacktop/tarmac. Maybe your road surfaces in Alberta are contributing to quicker tire wear.

My current MXM4's have about 31K on them ......... Still going, but short of measuring the tread depth (there ain't much left) I know I can't make it through another Oklahoma winter on my '05 TL.

I had one scary trip in a light snow and several batches of puddled rain. The MXM4's sucked under all conditions and really only thrive on dry pavement.

I am currently in this forum researching tires. Hard decision between Michelin Pilot Exalto or Sport, Toyo Proxes 4, or Pirelli P-Zero Nero's ............ So far based on ratings for traction, rain, snow, etc. the EXALTO's are winning out !

I think Exalto is rated H/
Pilot sport A/S seems to be benchmark of all All Season performance tires.

Proxes will be above average but there was one problem with it (road noise?)
Neros I think they aer good except on snow

MXM's

i think the answer is that the MXM's are lousy tires....

had them on my old acura....until i took them off and replaced
them with Yoko's....

check the rating on Tire Rack's site.....never seen a tire rated so low....

It looks like MXM4s are never made to perform any good other than smooth and quite ride.

Everwhere I talked to told me to go with Pilot Sport A/S. It is great tire except it doesn't do as good in snow compared to Conti's.

Living in Canada, I had to put more balance into winter performance. Although I will probably buy winter tire on steel rims next winter.

winter tires

i've got 2 acura's and 4 sets of tires...

live in wisconsin where winters can be bad

have dunlop M3's for winter.....they are great

and Yoko Avid 4's for summer...they are great

not as extravagant as you might think since i keep
my cars a long time and each tire will last twice as
long as it's on the car half the time......the only real
expense is an extra set of wheels.....

you can go with a 16 inch wheel at tire rack for $80...

so, $320 one-time expense for great driving summer and winter......????
