Best offset for 8" wide wheels is +50 without having to roll fenders.. However, there are not very many wheels that have high offsets.. normally the more expensive wheels have the correct offsets for 8" wide..

which wheels were you planning on getting?

the 8" wide wheel does make a difference.

If you put a for example 225 tire on a 7.5 and a 8" wheel, the tire will be stiffer and give you better traction side to side due to more contact of the tire on the road.
That's the reason why so many higer performance wheels/tires are wider..

It will also look wider and nicer as well.. you know, like how much nicer the stock wheels/tires look on the BMW compared to the TLs

It could also lower your fuel economy, too. Not sure if you were worried about that.

i was lookin at some websites.. it goes like this.. 18x7.5 5/100 then it goes 18x7.5 4/100... or instead of 100 its 114.. and the closest is offset is +49.. been reading this site.. they say go as close to original as possible... so +43 or +49? i dont really want to lower my ride that much as i live in nyc

You'll be lucky if you are able to get these anymore.. there may not be very many AV3 wheels left..

for the size, you should get:
18x7.5
5/114.3
+49

Regardless of if you lower your ride or not, the +49 will look alot better.

Your speedo will be off when changing to a diff diameter wheel. Since the overall diameter of your new wheels/tires together will not be exactly the same as your stock ones..

Also, there may be a little misunderstanding on what "wide" really means.. it is how wide your tires/wheels are accross the thread. The way you are describing it as in rev/min is acually the overal diameter, or circumferance of the new wheel/tire.

try this website out.. it will tell you how off your speedo will be.
TL-S stocks are 215/50/17

NICE WHITE TL-S, The latter set of numbers (ie 4 or 5/100) is the bolt pattern. We need 5/114.3 for our cars.

If I remember correctly (u can verify easily on some website)

With our cars....

40 series tires w/ 18" rims will give us a 1% error on speed and you'll be traveling slower than stated on the speedo.

45 series tires with 18" rims will give us a 1% error on speed and you'll be traveling faster than stated on the speedo.

Hope this gives some insight to the speedo question.
