18" vs 19"
My local tire and rims dealer told me that 19" rims on my TL-S will change the ride characteristics and if I want to keep a nice feel I should stick with 18". 19" will be more for looks than anything. This place does pretty high end stuff so I tend to believe them.
I want to keep my '07 TL-S riding well and don't want to sacrifice looks for comfort. Are upgrading to 18's over the stock 17's worth it?

That's usually the case when going up in size. It's not the 19" wheel that causes the problem, but the lower profile sidewall (stiffer and less flex) that is needed to keep the tire diameter similar to original.
Hypothetically, if one were to go up in diameter and keep the same tire make, model, width, and profile, the ride wouldn't change, but the tire height would be much greater.
Example:
234/40-18-25.40" diameter and sidewall is about 3.75"
235/35/19-25.47" diameter and sidewall is about 3.25"
FYI-This isn't usually the case when upgrading is done on the 70/75 series tires, eg SUV's, as even a 65 series has enough give to keep the ride constant.

Yea the 18's are nice on this car. I still have to look out for potholes with 18's. 19's would look great but you will sacrifice bent rims and blown tires if you are in a metro area!

I live by Gurnee IL, 40 minutes north of Chicago, and I see all kinds of cars with 19, 20, 22,23, 24, HUGE wheels on beaters, new cars, trucks, all over. And the roads here aren't that great either. SO MANY people told me to go 19's. Some people I know said to gets 20's. I think spending alot of $$$ to go from 17" to 18" is silly and a waste of money. If you want your car to really look great, you need 19's. IMO and SO MANY others. I will buy a quality forged 19" wheel instead of cheap quality which are usually the ones that get FCK'D up.

^^Ive heard that as well, getting a 19" wheel wont really hurt the ride comfort to much. It all depends on the tire that you purchase for that wheel. Probally a higher quality tire is going to provide a better ride

I suggest the Michilin Pilot Sport PS2 Tires. These of course are a summer performance tire, however, the ride will be second to none. I'm upgrading to 19's with this rubber as soon as I decide on which wheels to get... Decisions Decisions Decisions...
The Michelin PS2 tires will set you back about $350-$400 per tire depending on where you order them from.

I got 18's and the RE 050A Pole 245/40/18 ride better then stock. BUT Eibach pro springs WILL make it ride harder. Great on smooth slightly bumpy roads, but big bumps are HARD! I couldn't imagine if I went with 19" wheels and these springs. I think it would be TOO HARD.
