'04 TL wheel and tire size

Alright, so I've searched up and down in the forums and can't seem to get the answer I'm looking for. I'm wanting to buy a set of wheels for my car but not sure where to even start with specs. I really don't want to do any mods as far as rolling fenders, camber kits etc. I plan on lowering, not too much just flush.

The wheels I'm looking at are 18X8.5 +30 18X9.5 +35.
My first question is will those fit with out any mods? if not what is best recommended with 18's?
My second question what tire size should I be looking at if I want a little stretch?

If anyone can point me in the direction of a thread, provide answers or have any pics of similar set ups that would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot for the thread got a lot of great info! So to clarify, I shouldn't have any issues or need to roll fenders/camber kits etc with this set up. and to get a nice wheel stretch I should get 215/40 in the front and 225/40 in the back? What I didn't really get was how aggressive it would be?

I think those tire widths are going to be a little narrow for those rim widths.

What tire size do you recommend?

post your specs in that XXR thread...it's very active
someone will respond quickly. I'm not too up on specs for our TL's.

either way, if you want that stretched/flush look, you're going to have to roll(at least) your fenders AND get camber kit...
stretched tire on a "lowering, not too much just flush" car is not going to achieve the look you're after........

Coils
camber kit
wheels/tires
alignment
...in this order. good luck.

First recommendation is to lower your car first then look at rims and tires. My suspension is completely stock, but what I have generally seen from others passing along advice to members who are looking to lower and get rim is to do the lowering first. This way the car will have the stance and you can then make sure the rims and tires will fit. If you do the reverse you may wind up with rims and tires that no longer fit you car.

Again I'm completely stock and assuming the rims you have picked out fit - lowered or not - I would suggest wider tires as follows:

OEM stock rim size for the 3G TL is/was 17x8 and the stock tire size was 235/45/17.
OEM optional rim (A-Spec) rim size for the 3G TL was 18x8 and 18x8.5 (2004 only) and the stock tire size was 235/40/18

If you search here on AZ there are many members that have gone to a 245/45, 245/40 or 255/40 on the stock size. Here is one thread - https://acurazine.com/forums/tires-w...m-rims-595122/

I have the 18x8.5 A-Spec rims and am running 255/40/18 in the Summer and am running 245/45/17 dedicated snows on my 17x8 stock rims.

All this aside, my point was you are looking to start with tires that are narrower in width than what was OEM for the TL. Also if you go with a staggered set up as you have suggested, just bear in mind the TL is FWD so you will have the wider setup on the non drive wheels and you won't necessarily be able to rotate them. I guess you could put the 19s on the front but not sure how that would look.

Just some stuff to think about -

Thanks for the advice guys, I wanted to get wheels first because wheels are cheaper lol but you're right, could run into problems later on with fitment. and I didn't think about the rotation. Guess I'll look into coilovers first. I read tein ss is good I only want about an inch or 2 drop but not looking to lower ride quality that much so now off to a whole other research lol

The Tein SS are now the Tein SA(street advance).
Good choice. Exactly the coils I would choose as well. Did extensive research on coils, but decided to stay stock...

I meant the 9.5" rim in my comment above, not 19, but I gather you understood what I meant
