XM reception problems
Today I noticed that my XM radio stopped working reliably; it cuts in and out all the time. I used to get only one NO SIGNAL message before on my way to/from work (two wide bridges next to each other); however, my signal was interrupted over 50 times and I had background noise almost all the time today.
I have an appointment with my dealer scheduled for tomorrow, but I just wanted to ask for opinions on the issue. Has anyone experienced this yet? Any idea what might be involved in fixing it?

Yes. They are having a problem all over the place today. I called XM. The first clue was when I was on hold forever. I tried again later, at which time they confirmed a problem. Not sure, but I assume it is national or at least on the east coast.
If that's the only reason for your appointment, I'd go ahead and cancel, as they won't be able to fix it. XM is working on it. They said it would be a couple hours a couple hours ago. When I came home from dinner just now, it seemed better but not perfect.
Danged solar flares.

Yes, the same thing happened to me this afternoon. Kept cutting in and out, just like you drove under a bridge. So it is not the fault of your car. Maybe it was sun spots. This morning on the way to work everything was fine.
Same situation here in the DC area. I recently read where we will be going through a period of heightened sunspot activity that can interfere with satellite reception. I wonder how that might also impact on the car's navigation system? We might end up in Miami when we're headed for Cleveland!!

I honestly thought that it was due to foliage getting thicker and blocking out the line of sight to the satellite. I just started to notice it today, I guess I'll just have to bear with it.....or hit the road real quick before they fix it!

I guess I can sleep well too knowing that I am not the only one. Just out of the curiosity, I checked the radio few minutes ago and it was as bad as in the afternoon. Anybody tried to call XM and complain? Wonder if they could give a credit or extend a service for additional month free of charge?

Yep, just happened to me this morning on my way to usual routes that doesn't cut in and out. I was going to make an appointment thinking perhaps my antenna is messed up. So when should this issue be fixed by XM?
Previous message on the XM website stated that the problem would be fixed on Tuesday in the morning; however, it was not.
Below is the latest update from the XM website
XM Service Update
As many of you know, XM customers have experienced service outages or significantly degraded service since Monday mid-morning, May 21.
We quickly identified the problem and are working hard to return to our normal levels of service. The problem occurred during the loading of software to a critical component of our satellite broadcast system, which resulted in a loss of signal from one of our satellites. We expect normal service to resume midday today (eastern daylight time).
XM apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused. For updates, please go to www.xmradio.com
In the meantime, you can enjoy many of our music channels on XM Radio Online (xmro.xmradio.com) if you are close to computer.
Again, we regret any inconvenience for not having your XM Radio service fully available.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.
I am also having the same problem, and was about to go nuts.
I'll let the day play out and give them some time to resolve the issue; if it's still there tomorrow I might not be so nice!

I went out from 7 - 8 PM EST yesterday and when I was in a wide open area without any foliage it seemed to hold a signal (not cut out) ok. However, the slightest bit of foliage within a 100 foot area seemed to cause the XM to cut out completely - at some poiints displaying "No Signal" on the LCD panel. I thought it was something wrong with my car, considering my voice commands for NAVI stopped working at the same time (HFL voice commands work as they should though). Glad it's an XM issue - not my car.

Mine worked fine on the way home tonight, except for the place where it always drops out.

Apparently XM is now offering subscribers a refund for the 2-days of problems. See this article: http://www.azcentral.com/business/co...edit23-ON.html

I seem to be getting a buzzing noise coming from the front right speaker when listening to XM. The volume is set to about 30 and only takes place when tuned into the XM channels... it seems to have taken place after the outages. Anyone else having this issue?
