wipers only work in low 05 TL

Last night...it started to rain and I turned on the wipers....they came on just fine. Rain progressed...I switched to high...and they stopped dead in the middle of the windshield. What I found was this...they work in low setting....but when you switch to high...they stop working. There are three settings I think....intermittent...(works)....low...(works).. .and high (stops). For an 05 TL...I wouldnt expect the wiper motor to burn out...but when I search....thats the only info I find...but on 2G TL's. Anybody else experience the same thing. I havent checked all the fuses yet....figured I would ask first...then just let the dealer mess with it while I test drive their loaner...

Let me know if you have heard of this or know what might be going on before I start messing with it. Might save me some time diagnosing, ect. Thanks!
Mikey

I can tell you that it is not a fuse or a bad motor. Try to use the mist feature to see if it works. It uses the high setting of the motor to do that.

Just checked (first time out today...gave myself a concussion (sp?) yesterday out working in the yard and slit my head open) and no....the mist does not work either, just as you suspected. I also checked the washer spayer...it does work. Everything works except high speed? Weird.

If the car is under warranty, let Acura deal with it, if not then, First check the plug at the motor. Unplug it and look into both ends of the plug to make sure that their are no burned connections or any corrosion. If thats all good ( I am sure it will be) then the most likely cause would be the switch. I don't think that Honda uses wiper motors with brains like GM.

Hope your head gets better.

Thats kind of what I was thinking too...just let Acura deal with it! Its under warrantee I am sure. Crap....I just got it just over a year ago. I think it was in April of last year or something....

And ya...my head is much better today. What I did pretty much equated to taking a deck board and having it slammed into my forehead.....lol. I was taking a tree down in the back yard and fell...not when I was in the tree...but as I was cutting up the stump I had cut down...lol. Slammed my head into the edge of the deck on the way down. I even said right after I fell.....Ah....thats gonna leave a mark! It was when I went inside I was thinking to myself....thats why people pay people to do that stuff!

Thank goodness the tool you were cutting with didn't get you. Can you please keep me posted as to what Aura finds wrong w/ your wipers.

Just made apt today for tomorrow! Will post results. Also having them fix a fold in the padding under the rear seat as it has been obvious that something was not folded right in the padding since day 1 ... there is a small raise across the seat bottom you can feel is padding folded. My guess is all they will have to do is pull the cover off and unfold whatever is under there and put the cover back on....but luckily their interior guy is there on Tuesdays too!

It will be tomorrow before I get it back. They called and said it was something electronic and they were going to have to keep it overnight and continue to work tomorrow. Prob had to order a new wiper motor I bet....hopefully they have gotten that far anyway. I have an 06 TL loaner they gave me in black with the carbon fiber interior....so I am not complaining...other than I cant smoke in it (or wont anyway...gotta be respectful). Ah....I should have never started that habit anyway!

Very doubtful it is the motor. I think it would be a relay/switch, etc.

I am sure you guys are right given the new age of the motor....if it was the motor...it would purely be a fluke! I just hope they dont mess something up while they are fixing it. I always stress about that stuff...scratches, rim scuff, ect.

Ok...just got it back an hour ago. It was the wiper motor. They replaced all the relays/control board and it did the same thing. They replaced the motor today and it is all fine and works great. Although the mechanic is dealing with Acura now to get some additonal "straight time pay" for the job as it took so much time to diagnose. Bottom line....ended up being wiper motor.

Very strange that it would be the motor if it works at one speed and not another, but I don't have a diagram of the internal workings of that motor. Maybe there is a different gearset inside the motor that is used when on low/high speed, etc.

Not sure...I know when I did the initial search on the problem...it was all 2G TL's that came up. They had similar issues...it was always the wiper motor too. They said you can limp it along in what does work..and it will eventually let go too. (the 2G guys)
