Window tint problem
Window tint problem
hey what's up?..I just bought my TL last week and I got the windows tinted yesterday....however on my way out I heard a girl say that she has a TL and that she has been back 3 times because the tint has been scratched....I then asked the owner who also has a TL and he says there must be a gasket in the door that scratches it when you roll down the windows...anyone else had this happen or know how to fix it?
any ideas would be great!!
thanks

It's a common problem. You can buy a kit at the following link.

Good product and there is a DIY in the 3G Garage... very easy to do
I have scheduled to get tint on my black TL next week. I wasnt aware of this problem. Just curious, is it a problem that is 'common' in the sense that it is basically guaranteed your tint will be scratched without the mole skin kit, or something that happens to just to a minority of people who get tint? thanks
I didnt have moleskin on my TL with tints for well over a year and didnt have a problem. Decided to just put some on for the hell of it...still no problem. There is some good info in other tint threads on what to do to minimize your chances of scratching the tint if you dont opt for the moleskin

I had the same problem after i tinted my windows and it does leave streak scatches but I figured it was because it was a used 04 acura and the rubber molding was weathered and brittle. Also you might want to check for any dirt and make sure the rubber seal is not rolled inwards as mine was. Gently pull it outwards andd make sure the rubber doesnt have any rough edges!!
If they use a high quality film and you keep the interior glass clean you will not have any problems, If you let sand/dirt accumulate along the window seal you will get scratches, and the moleskin will not help you with that.
poh,
Our Moleskin is designed to keep the dirt and grime from touching your tint hence preventing window scratches.
High quality film WILL NOT prevent window tint scratches in the TL. Full Stop.
Either your tint shop will have to cut your weather strips off (very bad idea) or you get high quality Moleskin. Those are the only two things that will prevent your tint from scratching.
