Will my cleared headlights pass PA dealer inspection?
I am selling my car and the customer thinks my cleared headlights will not pass inspection?
I have a clear bulb that blinks yellow. He thinks it will fail because of that and he only wants to bring it to a dealership because he doesn't want the hassle every year.
I proposed a bootleg idea and said tape these reflectors onto the exterior of the side headlight and it should pass then. Would that work?

Double sided tape and put something like that on the exterior of the light, go to inspection, pass, and then take it off, thats IF THEY EVEN SAY ANYTHING. ANY INPUT PENNSYLVANIA GUYS?

Why should it fail ... what does the law state? Must have a yellow indicator light on the front? If it blinks yellow then it meets it. The yellow refector is there to reflect a white light yellow and for looks.

It will pass. The yellow reflector has nothing to do with passing. All it does is reflect light. I have mine cleared and as long as it lights up orange you will be fine. The person buying your car clearly dosent know what hes talking about.
Good luck with the sale!
By the way - let him take it to a dealer - they will tell you the same thing

A bit more detail, please. Are you running switchbacks? Also, what bulbs are in your OEM fogs? I ask b/c I have heard the SBs get failed for not being DOT approved and last year, the inspection station called to say he could not pass it b/c of my Nokya Yellows. I took a pair of Silverstars down for him to install. Took the car home and had the Nokyas back in inside of 10 mins. PITA anyway.
My biggest concern is the switchbacks. I think I will spend the $10 for a set of chromed 7443 amber bulbs just in case. The question is, will they work with my resistors?

Nope, I disagree guys. The reflectors are there in case of a sudden power failure at night & you are forced to navigate (drive) without lights in order to get to a safe place. The red reflectors in the rear & yellow/amber(very rarely white, but i have seen a few) reflectors in the front will give the other vehicles an idea of which direction you are traveling (unless your goofy enough to drive in reverse)
Therefore, yes, reflectors are necessary to pass inspection legally. Although I have been pulled over several times without any reflectors & never had issues... (knock on wood)
One time, the female officer even had to ask how I got LEDs inside an oem headlight.

cars are subject to Federal law- the DOT says you must have a yellow reflector to the front corner/side to identify the corner of car
getting hasseled about it is another thing,,all depends on the cops mood-
there are over 1700 motor vehicle codes to choose from ,,,
really lowered hondas get it for headlights too low---min. allowed 20 inches above ground!
Ive seen cops with tape measures!!

inspection stations are hopefully more concerned with bad suspension or steering parts, brake lights work etc

OKAY BUT... what about my proposed idea of putting sort of yellow bike reflectors, get double sided tape and stick them on the outside of the headlight...go to inspection. have "yellow reflectors" pass the inspection, take a heat gun and remove them. Would that be a good backup incase problems arise? This guy is talking about me getting the amber put back inside the headlight. REMOVAL of bumper, bake the headlights, blah blah..not interested in dong that EVER!

You will need reflectors, but law doesn't state that they need to be in the headlight. G35s and may other vehicles have them on the side of the bumper. I would try to retro something into the front grill or on the lower side of the bumper and it should pass just to be safe.

I live in pa and have a civic with clear side markers and they pass it with no problem as long as you have the right color bulb. This being said it doesn't mean its legal ive been pulled over for not having the right color reflectors.
