Why wont my 05 tl start up?

Unhappy Why wont my 05 tl start up?

Im so aggrivated... Ive been having problems with it getting stuck in 2nd gear.. Now, on top of that, it wont start. It just turns over and over and over... I kept killing my battery, so I hooked a battery charger up to it, put it on the "start" setting and after I sit there and try to start it , turning the key 30 or 40 times, after about 20 minutes it finally starts... but it smokes, a white smoke.. Then, it runs just as smooth as silk.. till after 5 or 6 hours.. Then I have to hook the charger to it again to start it. Coil packs are only 1 year old.. Battery is new. Please someone give me some idea's, thi is my only mode of transportation..

If you can afford it, get it towed to a shop and have them fix it. It is the fastest way to get back on the road.

Some members will try to help you troubleshoot, but that may take a lot of time going back and forth. That's okay if you have the time. Otherwise, people are going to give you guesses and you're going to start replacing parts hoping it's right.

I think I'll take your advise, weather I can afford it or not. Thanks Brah.

Well, that's just it.... I cant afford it, and at the same time, I cant afford not to do it. The last time I took it to a shop, they told me there wasnt no way around it.... that I needed a new transmission right then.... I told him I'd have to wait... then I went home and poured a little Lucas Stop Slip in there, and have drove it every since and that was over 3 years ago. But you're right. Cause now, so far, I've replaced 2 different solenoids, and somehow its managed to get worse.

If you haven't already, you need to start with the basics:

1) Spark
2) Fuel
3) Air

If your battery is draining while sitting and the engine is not running it may be the Bluetooth HFL. The 3G TL is known for this module to fail and not completely turn off when the ignition is turned off - consequently becoming a parasitic drain on your battery.

Im still stumped...

Yeah,
It isnt the BT Hands Free Link cause its disconnected. But my battery is fine.. The only thing killing my battery is ME, while I'm trying to start my engine.. It's got plenty of juice, it just keeps turning over and over... Then it'll sound like it's about to start up, but dont. after 20 minutes of this it finally starts..I took 4, 5, and 6 cylinder spark plugs out and checked them out, and they are fine... the coil packs are about 1 year old..

Is it getting fuel? Can you hear the fuel pump prime?

Yes Sir......
I even removed the bottom part of my back seat so that I could hear it. I have a cheap $8 Walmart BT ODB2 Scanner.... and it only tells me "misfire on cylinder 1", "misfire on cylinder 2", "misfire on cylinder 3", 4, 5 and 6...
While I have your attention, I have been having transmission problems also.. "Pressure control solenoid "A" stuck in "ON" position, and "C"{ stuck in "ON" position.. Last week I changed "A", and it made no difference... and yesterday I changed "C"....Now, its stuck in 3rd gear. and its smoking bad, and it ran hot.... and all I did was take it around the block. OK< the Shift solenoid "A" I replaced yesterday, is a "Duralast TCS81 (*TCSB10003)... Do you think that's why it went from bad to worse? Because I bought Duralast, not Honda? (actually, I just bought what they had)

If it’s turning over then it’s definitely not a battery issue. You checked 4-5-6 plugs but you might want to check the other bank. You mentioned the coils are new. How new are the spark plugs? If you’re hearing the fuel pump then there isn’t much else it could be. You could try pumping the gas a little while cranking and see if you can get it to start that way. If that works, it’s probably fuel pump related.

This is random, but do you have another key? Sometimes when a key becomes unprogrammed to the car (which can happen) it will allow you to unlock and lock the car with the remote, but it won’t actually start the car. This has happened to me before. I have a remote key for the TL that doesn’t start the car. It needs to be reprogrammed.

As far as your trans goes, if stop slip fixed it before, couldn’t hurt to try it again? Or maybe it can. Idk. If they told you, you needed a transmission maybe you were just able to bandaid it for all this time and it’s finally giving out.

I figured it out....

Ok,. A friend of mine checked something and damn sure enuf, he was right. There was just a tiny bit of smoke coming out of the radiator when I removed its cap. Which meant that somewhere in my engine, exhaust and water were mixing.. cracked block? Blown head gasket? I don't know. So, I went to autozone and bought a $65 bottle of CRC HEAD AND BLOCK REPAIR liquid. It called for using ½ the bottle.. I did, and it worked 100%. It hasn't run hot, and it starts up everytime. I know this might not be good for the engine, but when it's on its last leg, what other choice did I have.. and the car is immaculate, it's beautiful, there's no way I could part with ANY part of it. So NO, it won't be parted out any time soon.
