Whistle/whine when accelerating. Help :(

I guys, I know I posted some issues before. And those are finally getting resolved. But this is a particular one I want to address. I have a 06 tl w/nav AT with 122k on the dash

A I hear a light whine noise when pressing the accelerator I'm afraid it might be the tranny. I have a video of it here. If you listen carefully you will start to hear it.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByUa...p=docslist_api

It Only will happen when car is in motion and when I push the accelerator. I checked my tranny fluid but it's difficult to read. I ran the car for 15 mins till operating temp. Then turned it off and waited 10min and then checked.

The think drop of fluid is on the bottom of the dip stick before the two dots. But there is a light layer of the fluid above the drop going over the dots.

Perhaps a tranny fluid flush might solve it? Has any had this problem and is there tranny still working after solving it?

If you're driving and let go of the accelerator while still rolling, do you hear the sound?

Only when I push the pedal. If I let go and I'm rolling, no noise

OP - any update on this issue? I might have the same issue. The whine is only heard around 60 and up mph. I thought it might be wheel bearings but it's odd that the noise is only produced when I'm on the gas, goes away as soon as the foot is off....same as what you described. I read somewhere that it might be the propeller shaft?

I'm still trying to figure it out. My idea is that it's either on, a bearing, a pulley bearing, alternator bearing, or the cat converter. Idk why I have a strong feeling it's the cat converter. Are you facing any symptoms of lean engine bank? We can trouble shoot by process of elimination. Have u replaced the cat recently. I'm praying it's not a tranny problem which I doubt it is but it could be..

its your torque converter or shaft bearings in the trans.
Either way,...start saving for a rebuild or replacement.

yeah, I hate to bring the bad news but im going through that now.
During cold start I would hear a whining noise emitting from the trans area and would go away after warmed up.
Car drove fine for a week or two before it started to shudder on me and seem to have no power when taking off from a stop.
Then it turned into hard shifting and what felt like the car double shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear.
Eventually, it turned into a continuous whine which corresponds and gets louder with the throttle.
I do have a DTC code P0741 but no Check engine light on.

I havent drained the fluid to check for particles but my trans fluid looks burnt via the dip stick and it was changed about 4k miles ago.

One of the members here was greatful to pass along a contact of someone who rebuilt his trans for 1500. He offers a 3month warranty but its about 80 miles from me.

A shop closer to me is asking 2300 to rebuild it and offers 3 year warranty.

my debate is should I just trade it in as is or fix it. I did plan on keeping it for another year. Just waiting to see if the accord sport for 2016 comes with a sunroof.
Plus, I have 169k miles so trade in value either way is going to be low.

It's been almost a month my car has been sitting in the driveway while I figure out what to do.

do you live in NJ/NY/PA ?

also, if you have a code reader check to see if you have any codes. Just because the check engine light may not be illuminated doesnt mean it didnt trigger a fault.

i appreciate u taking the time to reply.
So i my whistle doesn't happen all the time only sometimes. mainly at night. and i have no other tranny problems going on its shifting fine. i have no codes showing up.
i drained the fluid and filed up with 2 quarts HATF DW1 and 1 QT lucas leak fix because i had a leak by the cv. Every since that i never got a leak on the tranny

i have the same debate. i want the 2013 Accord coupe or 2015 (whichever i can afford, i might settle for a 08 Accord and pay it in full) mines 123k i think my tranny might have some significant like left. (maybe 10k hopefully since I'm a feather on the gas peddle) i live in NY

Honestly a tranny rebult at anything past 100k meh not worth it. I wouldn't have this car if my 97 accord didn't get stolen. (MOST RELIABLE ACCORD EVER) but 2300… tooooo much at 160k i think its time for a new baby. I might sell mine in one month i can't deal with it. i will lose a couple bucks but if i can get rid of it for the cost i bought it for 3 months ago ill be okay.

Is the noise a very faint, whistling noise? Maybe to more accurately describe it, sort of like a really faint but high pitched pigeon cooing or lulling? I actually had that in my 2005 Accord EX (6 cyl); God knows HOW long it was like that. First time I ever noticed it was maybe back in like 2009 or 2010, but never really gave me any issues. Never did figure out what it was, but drove pretty good. Granted, I think most of those miles were on the freeway as my dad initially drove about 100 miles everyday for commuting, but we didn't do any special fixes besides regular maintenance.

I think I tried googling the issue before but there were a lot of things popped up. Some said it was the tranny, while others said ti was the TB or a vacum leak. We changed the TB like 3/4 times, as the car hit about 243k before the tranny finally went out, so I think logically if I followed everything I read, it may either be the tranny or just a vacuum leak.

Cat has not been replaced. I'm definitely not liking the fact that it might be the tranny. I'm at 102K....and about to do a timing belt job in a month. I did read that it could be idler pulley. I assume this will get replaced with the timing belt service. I guess I'll find out

Well, I think I got at least 100k miles with the noise before the tranny called it quits on me. Always referred to it as my "warp drive" hahaha

I dont think its tranny. I think its a air leak , my cat, or idler pulley. Cause i have a lean bank 2 code which is causing lack of power and hard steering sometimes due to engine running lean. My tranny shows no signs of going bad aside from the leak i mentioned above.

I have the same whistle and I'm pretty sure it's my tranny. It doesn't do it if I press on the gas when in neutral or parked.

Car shifts fine but I have an automatic.

I have 220,000km.

I bought it with 210,000 but the sound wasn't as noticeable.

I did the 3x3 drain and fill and it seemed like it made it louder.

I have a very faint whining when accelerating. Transmission only seems to be "iffy" after long drives. It would take a few seconds to shift, in comparison to when I fist turn it on (shifts in almost 1 sec). I hope its not on its way out, but not much I can do other than trade it in. Which isn't an option at this moment. Hope both of our trannies last for 100k more!

The whistle noise for me becomes prevalent after about 30mph.

If it was the alternator, wouldn't the sound still be audible whether I press on the gas on neutral or when in drive?

I would be ecstatic if that was the case because that would be an easy fix.

Ohh and I just remembered I just replaced the alternator. Shit so it definitely is my transmission. Well that's depressing.

i got a second opinion. mechanic said its the tranny TC, but tomorrow i will replace tranny filter and fluid again. it can whine if the tranny fluid is not reaching the tranny properly due to clogs

Hello. I’m tl 2006 release. I also whistle when the car accelerates. It appears only when I press the accelerator pedal. I’m struggling with this problem but for now without result ((
I bought the car 6 months ago, I immediately liked it .. and now I just take out the brain)
the sound is similar to the sound of an airplane taking off (as with the operation of an airplane turbine)

It's the rear main seal on the torque converter. Not worth the repair. I change my transmission fluid once a year and add at-205. Noise is there but car still runs. Also I drive at does where rpm is lowv and the whistle doesn't occur

aT205 IA AN additive u can buy online and add to any fluid to bring seals back to rubbery after they've dried out. It's a great product and have stopped all my tranny leaks

Update after 2 years

So a little update after 2 years

I added At-205 drove calmly and light footed never once accelerating hard.

Car is at 175k and everything runs butter smooth. The whine actually isn't even there anymore so that's strange. I have however completed timing belt jobs. Struts. Tires. Rotors and brakes. All fluids and spark plugs in that time.

This fluid is added to the transmission itself or to the engine?

Have a link to the product you used? There are different types.
