Whistle Noise.

Hello Guys,

I recently bought a new 05 TL and have less than 4000 kms on it. When I accelerate from stop there seems to be an annoying whistling sound coming from the back, I took it to the dealer and they replaced the catalyic converter and some heat shield however the sound is still there. The dealer is now in touch with Acura Tech Line in Canada.

Any suggestions to what might this be as this is annoying as hell on a $45,000 vehicle !!

Issue Resolved.

Hello,

Finally I got my issue resolved at the dealership, they had to keep my car for 3 days and gave me a loaner. They replaced the A-pipe, the cataylic conveter and the heat shields with all the nuts and bolts on the shield. They also put some kind of sealent for some heat shield near the front tires near the front two rotors. The issue is fixed for now, let's see what happens next.

Thanks.

It could be that irritating Andy Griffith in the back seat whistling again! Did you make sure he wasnt there? (j/k)

Glad they were able to get it fixed. I know how those things can just get under your skin after a while...especially right after you notice them. Heres to hoping it doesnt come back again....

TheMainEvent is complaining about whistle noise too. Does it matter if it's coming from outside of her car?

BTW, thanks for sharing. I'll know what to tell the service guys when that time comes...

Hey Mods,

Might be a great idea to post scans of various common (non-TSB) work orders in the garage???

Hey,

No this sound is not normal, the dealer tried to feed me the same BS when I took my car in, when I freaked out on them they gave me a loaner and after keeping the car for 4 days the issue was fixed.

Thanks.

What issue did they fix on your car...I am just curious because I am noticing the noise more and more, I basically just want to drop it off and say keep it till it is fixed.

I got my car fixed for this noise on Friday. They kept the car for most of the day and they ended up fixing the heat shield. They stated that the heat shield was touching the axle and needed to be tightened. After this was done everything sounded fine.

They also stated that this was very rare and they have not heard of this before.

Aside from the time it took for them to find the problem, did it take a very long time to actually fix?

I'm going into my dealer tomorrow and I'm gonna take a print out of this thread with me. If they look at the heat shield first and find the problem, I'm hoping that it would be a quick fix and I'm out of there in no time.

I think im having the same problem but i only hear it at 2500RPM and it sounds like crickets outside any where below or above 2500RPM no noise and it only when its in gear wont do it in nutral or park. I saw the work they did on your car and called the acura dealer in Ramsey, NJ the service guy who was a tech a year ago told me that the head sheild is no where near the axel and i said 3 times are you sure he said positive. Is anyone have this problem at 2500RPM Its makes me so mad i want to trade in the car!

Well I took the car in about two weeks ago and they said it was a common noise. They said if it gets worse to bering it back.

When I took it back about a week late I thought the noise seemed louder. I went on a road test with the same mechanic who did the test before. He said that he definately heard it and that it was not a normal sound. I then told him that I read on the Internet that people were saying it was aheat shield issue. He said to me he would look into it.

I left the car after the road test at aboutn 9:00am and they called me and told me it was done at about 4:00pm. They then stated that it was the haest shiels touching the axle or something like that.

I have the same problem with my 6MT, except the noise is definitely coming from an area near the front of the car. I took it into the dealer twice and, of course, the car wouldn't produce the noise during test drives with a tech and with the tech solo. They appeared to think I was making up the whole thing (yeah, like I really want to be spending lots of time at the dealership and screwing up my schedule). They said they reshaped the heat shields, but that didn't do a thing. In fact, now that the weather is getting colder, the noise is constant in the 2500-3500 RPM range and also under heavy loads (e.g., flooring it in third at 2000 RPM).
