Whining noise under hood

OK, so I am getting a whining noise from under the hood when its cold outside. I popped the hood this morning and it sounds like its coming from the tranny but not sure. I checked the fluid when I got home from work and the level is good, color is good. I have also already done the 3x3. Is it normal for the whining when temperatures are low (40 or lower)?
Transmission shifts fine.

Are you sure it's not the power steering? This is usually the first thing that whines on our TLs. Look around the forum with keyword "whine", you'll see that I mean.

Locate the PS pump and listen there. Your o-rings are likely to originals which are historically prone to failure. There are two main culprits, both of which will run about $1.20 or so and maybe 20 minutes to replace. I'd start there.

^^ Change your o-rings and if the whining sound still continues then it might be you PS pump. I changed my rings 5 days ago, but I am still hearing the whining noise...I heard it can take up to couple days to get the air out of the system so I am still hopeful

Go completely left to completely right 6 times with the PS reservoir cap removed. Put cap back. Done.
