Whining noise after starting up the car under cold weather

mild whining noise after starting up the car under cold weather, worsen when turning the steering wheel. gone after 10 min of driving to warm up the car. i have checked the steering fluid level and it's full. this only happens when it's extremely cold outside. during warm days it doesn't happen. is this something serious or normal from high mileage (103k miles, mostly highway). this is 06 model. thanks in advance

Power steering pump. Let the car idle for a 30 seconds to a minute before you drive it to get all fluids warmed up. It may need to be replaced if its really bad, but since you said it goes away once warm then its fine.

Replace the 0-ring on the inlet elbow for the power steering. I had made the 1st original thread 2 years back and majafo has made an updates thread about this. The 0-ring is a few cents from the dealer you will need a 10mm closed wrench with a slight curve at the end to do this job. It takes about 5 mins to do this 0-ring, note after doing this job you will need to drive the car and bleed out the air so it will still make some noise after the new ring is installed intill you bleed it out.

There is a recall for this. You can stop by a dealer to see if ur car is covered and if it has already been done. I got mine done under recall last year.

I'd give it a shot. Its a cheap and easy fix. IIRC honda recently issued a recall for the same issue on the v6 accords.
