Exclamation Whine Noise when starting Power steering?*

When I start my car in the morning, and I turn my steering wheel just a bit. It makes this whine noise, and only if its cold outside. Im not sure if it's the pump. It's not the fluid I already checked. Any help would be very appreciative!

Do a search, there's a huge thread on this exact issue. It's an 0-ring.

its the O-ring. Its an easy and cheap fix if you do it yourself.

yep,it's the o-ring........had the same sound when starting in cold weather yesterday, took it to the dealer, still under warranty. the sound went away after driving for 30 minutes, but the dealer knew what the problem was because the power steering fluid had air in it. Replaced the o-ring in 15 minutes.....running fine, quiet again.

Sorry to thread jack OP....but is it common to have a "whine" noise when driving. This noise doesn't go away either after 30 mins. Today it was about 68 degrees F and the whine noise was exceptionally loud. Stops when the car is not moving.

Are we talking about the same noise or do I have another issue?

Any help>>>>>

The powersteering issue will be there anytime the engine is running regardless of road speed. Something else is wrong with yours. It can be a lot of things. Transmission comes to mind, so does a wheel bearing. You might start another thread on it to get more help from more people.

Hey guys, need some input:

I changed the O-ring on the inlet line with the factory o ring. Still whines until warm. Found out Acura sold me "the black ring", went back and got the "orange ring" that was recommended by the community. I still get the whine until warm. Suggestions?

Should I replace the high pressure o ring that is further up on the power steering hose/line?

Had the same problem. Changed the old black o ring to a new orange one and it fixed the problem.

YouTube has many step by step videos that can help.

There are two predominantly crappy o-rings on the PS pump. The first and most common is the o-ring failure on the inlet joint (91345-RDA-A01). Once that's been replaced your inclination is correct - move upstream and replace the P/S Feed line o-ring (91370-SV4-000).

Also, examine the PS pump for any residual fluid on the pump casing - you may need a tear down and rebuild of the o-rings if the two aforementioned fixes don't do the trick.

Is there a recall on this item or a service notice?
