Hey guys,
So I bought my 05 TL with Nav last week from an independent seller with 120,000 miles on it. As he pulls up to me, the wheels/brakes/rotors were making a horrible screeching sound. The same sound I heard from a TL that I test drove the day before from a dealership. Off the bat when I met him I asked him what the hell was that noise to which he replied, "I've had it looked at 3 or 4 times, it's just something that TL's do." Basically telling me you cant fix it. Which I know is bullshit because with cars, nothing is truly "unfixable." Whenever I am braking, accelerating, or just driving I hear this noise. Especially when I am passing cars, driving under bridges, or driving next to a sidewall. I can't even drive with my windows down because it's just like nails on a chalkboard for me. I've also searched all around and couldnt find any solution other than replace the brake pads, which I am getting done tomorrow. So have any of you guys had any problems with this that could offer some advice. Thanks

sounds like brake pads.
there is a metal prong type thing that sticks out. once the meat of the pads are worn down, the prong sticks out and makes a metallic squealing noise

I know the feeling of wanting to drive away in my new car, but I wouldn't have accepted it from him unless it was fixed. Or at the very least he gave you the names of the places he took it to try to get it fixed so that you could verify that he actually looked into it. Otherwise he may have just given you a line to get you off the lot.
As you said, anything is fixable if you throw enough money at it. I'm not sure what it is, but there's a limited number of possibilities. Wheel, brake, or steering components. Which wheel is it?

If the problem IS brake pads, then that salesman is a dink, because that's something he could have easily taken care of!Originally Posted by justnspace

^agreed with you tho..without actually seeing the car, its hard to diagnose over the internet. it could be any number of things.
Yeah I understand. I pretty much got the car for a steal so I was just thinking that I would be able to fix it. Upon further reading I'm kinda kicking myself that I didn't look into this more.

So let me get this straight, the car pulls up to you and sounds like a total piece of junk, then you buy it? lol mmmk
Alright so you got a really good deal on it which is good because it sounds like your gonna have to drop money into it right away. So a loud screeching sound is most likely break related. You could start by replacing the rotors and pads. If it still does it could be a defective caliper or something along those lines. What im confused about is if its as simple as being worn out pads and the wear sensors making noise, you should already know that. All you gotta do is look and see if there is any pad left like Justnspace said. That you could have done right there when looking at the car with the salesmen.
If you want ti taken care of the easiest and quickest just take the hit and take it to Acura and say fix it.

I mean I got an 05 TL with Nav in flawless condition and was garaged kept and the guy was anal as shit about his car staying clean and maintaining everything for $8,200. So yes to answer your question I did buy it. Even if I have to put $2,000 into it it would still be worth it. His company gave him a company car so he just wanted to sell it and do a good deed for a 21 year old kid in college. So all in all I think I made a good decision.Originally Posted by JTS97Z28

Doesn't sound too anal about his stuff if he thinks the car is normal for making such awful noises.
The car may be clean but mechanically, could be another story.

I retract my salesman comment, I took 'independent seller" to mean used dealer.
I do, however, say that if it's brake pads, the owner could have taken care of it.
