What's the deal with TL headlights pitting, getting dirty inside?
Is it really dirt/ particles inside the lens and how do they get there?
Obviously best way is to crack them open and clean?

Sure that's on the inside?
I polished the outside of my lens and sealed it and got this:

Combination of UV rays, age, and road debris.

Nice ! I assume its on inside cuz it doesn't simply rub off with a normal microfiber cloth but I could be wrong.

yeah it's the outer UV coating that's failing and getting nicked off by road debris.
I used the 3M restoration kit available on Amazon + a 50/50 mix of spar urethane and mineral spirits (DIY sealant). Other sealants like OptiClear or something work well too.
