What's the Deal?
Alright, I don't know why it is, and I couldn't find any threads that addressed this issue, so here it is: Why does the transmission grind sometimes when I'm shifting from 2nd to 3rd? I got a '07 TL Type-S, but I've found that my car isn't the only one with this problem. My friend has an '06 Civic SI, and his car did the same thing. He said to fix this problem, he first: flushed his transmission, second: he got a short-shifter, third: he got his shifter bushing replaced. Now he doesn't have any issues with his transmission. The reason he went to steps 2 and 3 is because he said once the transmission fluid got dirty, the same issue came up. I recently (last week) got my transmission serviced (12.8K mi.), and my car shifts smooth as butter. However, I am weary that after about 6K mi., I am going to come upon the same problem again. Anybody have anything to add, advise? How can I get rid of this issue permanently...and also, WHY does this happen? Thanks for the input.
For some reason all the 6 speed transmissions from Honda do this. Switch to GM Syncromesh Friction Modified and your problems will disappear. There is already a few threads on it.
Also, I have seen more transmissions destroyed by short shifter than I care to mention. SO if you decide to go that route use caustion in making such a decision. Shifter bushings are a good idea though.
