What kind of transmission problem do I have?

I have a 5AT 08 Type S and today when driving the car felt like it was going to stop when it was going between 3rd and 4th gear and the RPMs went up to 4k. but once in 4th gear it was normal, and from 4th to 5th everything was normal.

I think 3rd was normal too, just when it was trying to go from 3rd to 4th.

were you in SS or automatic mode? and were you going up a hill?

sometimes it'll take a while for the next gear to engage if you're traveling up hill. it'll kinda 'hang' for a while if you know what i mean.

it was reletively flat, and I don't use SS mode normally. On Monday I had to jump start the car because I hadn't driven it for about 2 weeks. I used SS mode to keep it in the lower gears (2-3k rpm) so that the battery could charge up as I got to work (not very far).

Need more info. How many miles on the car? Have you changed the ATF? What type of ATF are you running? Did the engine rev while you were in gear (indicating that the transmission was slipping)?

If the car was slowing down (you said it felt like it was "going to stop") while in gear, and the RPM of the engine was speeding up, then you have a transmission slipping problem, and that is not good.

Switches can be a problem with this transmission, but that level of slipping does not sound normal. There can be codes thrown if the transmission malfunctions. Sounds like time for an Acura diagnostic. Good luck.

Damn, sounds like I should go to the dealership then.

At about 75k miles my radiator hose burst and AT fluid all came out, it was all replaced with Acura stuff from the dealership. I'm at 78k miles now. It made it to 3k miles with no problems at all, and then all of a sudden this started happening in 1,2,3 all is good 4,5 all is good... Its just when changing up from 3 to 4 that all the problems occur around the 40mph range.

At what level is the transmission fluid supposed to show on the dip stick when the engine is warm?
