What is this?

08 base. Ive been noticing some clunking coming from fromt passenger corne. Replaced the end link which helped but there is still something making noise. I figure it is the shock and when I was taking off the strut bar I noticed this thing attached which i am guessing has something to do with the heater core? Anyway not as important as that it is just flopping up and down with only one bolt holding it in place.

Pics...

Notice the bolt attached to the strut bar in the lower right. That is the only one attached to anything other than the wires that come out of it.
Where does that other bolt attach to?

Not sure if it was or not. I dont think so... I purchased it from southern ontario w 200k kms after my old TL was totaled. Best deal I could find and it seemed to be in very good condition.

Ok i will see about putting it on there. Thanks.

Theres no hole there for a bolt to go in. Can you check yours and see if it is positioned right?

Where is it flopping around at?

Also, take some cleaner and a hose to that bay. Can't see what you are working on with all that dirt/dust in there.

Spray with some degreaser/cleaner, let it sit for a few minutes then spray out with a hose. Don't do it while the motor is HOT.

Did the bolt snap off inside of there?

Thanks for the suggestion. I may give it a try sometime.

As for the bolt location... It is there just buried under some rust...

I scrapes there area a little bit to reveal a bolt hole filled in with what I can only imagine is a broken bolt. Anyway I am not worried about it at all really.... I put some weather stripping over the hole location so the sensor housing is not banging against that spot. Tightemed the other one down and it seems sturdy enough.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Spray it with PB blaster and let it soak. Drill into the the bolt and use a bolt extractor to remove the threaded portion of the bolt. Good Luck!

Alright I tried extracting this bolt today but it is not an easy location to put a drill amd I emded up breaking a bunch of bits to try and use the extractor. Anyway I am sure some of those bits bits are lodged in the broken bolt now. I actually had to do the same thing for tye Ram1500 just last week and that was successful but this time I am not so sure. HERE IS MY QUESTION: I am wondering if I can just drill into the metal just next to it and use another (smaller bolt and washer) to keep my APP sensor in place? What is under there and will I potentially hurt anything?

As it is I have been driving the car around for 2 years now and put on 60k kms. This bolt has been broken for a while now and I am looking into it more because my car threw an engine light this afternoon. I wonder if it was caused by this bolt or perhaps the APP sensor needs replacing as well since my obd2 reader gave me a p0741 code.

This is a mess but the info is there. Thanks!

No ideas as to whether I can safely drill next to that hole to secure the APP sensor?

Slap some duct tape on it and call it a day. A broken bolt won't throw a code. P0741 sounds like the TC solenoid. Reaserch the fault code and find a resolution.

agreed with breezy, the bolt wont cause the code to show up...rather maybe the app sensor is now dead and needs replacing

Now I am thinking I should be looking for weak or broken bolts everywhere else. Maybe my engine/tranny is about to fall out the bottom.

I look at my engine bay periodically. and yes, thats exactly what I'm looking for, backed out or missing bolts.
just a quick glance for anything missing. sometimes i find my missing tool, or find missing bolts that need attention. always good to look and inspect
