What is this and its importance?

 

Front sub-frame middle mount. There's one each side, different part numbers.
As far as importance, it's one of the mounts that secure the sub-frame into position and when they fracture the assembly can move out of position.
Just remember, mounts are there for a reason and when one fractures it can cause other problems.
