Wet Moleskin After Rain

Hey guys,

I am a TSX guy and this is my first post in the TL section so i hope ya'll don't mind! I just know that you guys have the same felt/moleskin/scratch problems that we have and thought i would ask you guys this and see if you have any ideas. The TSX guys weren't really sure either so here goes nothing.

Basically, anytime it rains the driver side felt gets soaking wet so that when i roll the window down and then back up, there are water streaks all over the window. If it rains a little bit, then its usually just the front portion of the felt that gets wet which means its most likely getting water from the front portion of the window. If it rains a LOT then ALL the felts on all the windows get wet and leaves streaks on the windows unless i wait about 2-3 days after it rains to put them down, and even then sometimes it will still leave faint streaks. I have no sractches (except in the rear from removing the 3rd brake light to install some Dynamat) but this water issue is a pain.

I have already had the dealer look at it (i had an 04 with the EXACT same problem already and now i have 06 with the same problem) and they couldn't find anything. The tint guy is baffled by it and said if we find where the water is coming from and fix it, he would redo the tint and felts for me but he isn't going to redo it if they will continue to get wet (i don't blame him). He said he has tinted at least 15 TL's, a few RSX's, and quite a few TSX's and has not had anyone else with this problem. He is one of the best guys in the area and we can't figure out where its coming from. So, i just figured i would ask you guys if anyone else has or had this problem and could provide me with some additional info or new viewpoints.

Thanks in advance!

Happened to me - only on the drivers side. I just took the moleskin off.

Wow, ok, well at least i know its not JUST me on this!!

Subinf- How long ago did you take it off and have you had any scratching since taking it off?

MaFreCola- Have you thought about cutting the piece of plastic off at all? I also have noticed that the water tends to start in the front of the window so i was debating about cutting maybe the first 2"-3" off and maybe it wouldn't be able to absorb it anymore. Its just a theory but do you have anyone you are taking it to so they can look at it at all?

Hmm.....I can try cutting off the first 2"-3". The water starts in the front of the windows as well. I'll let you know how that goes.

I installed it in anticipation of tinting my front windows. I decided against it, so I can't answer your question.

I did have the rear window tint on the car for about a year before I put the moleskin on though, and didn't experience any scratching.

Did you happen to have any time to try and cut this off yet? I haven't had time to stop by the tint place yet (working the 9-5 with a 1.3 hr commute doesn't help).

dansienk- are you planning on just living it or trying to fix it at all?

subinf- I never noticed scratching in the rear on my 04 too but i don't really seem to get water there unless its an absolute down pour for hrs. I might just take the felt off the driver door.

Anyone- Did any of you guys happen to cut off that little rubber piece just so you wouldn't deal with scratches instead of felt? If so, was there more road noise coming through the door?

I plan on living with it, I'm more concerned with my suspension and rattle issues right now
