WDP painting colour difference!!
After having a big scratch on the front pessenger door, i sent my car to the auto shop to repaint both passenger side door and fender. But the colour looks way too much different now. The new painting on the front door is much whiter than the original colour on the rear door, ecpecially at night. The whole right side of the car looks weird.
The guy from the autoshop told me that WDP will never match, is that true?
I live in Vancouver Canada. Do anybody have any idea how i can solve this problem......? T.T
Thank You!

Re-paint the area?
Sand + Paint the whole thing so it matches?
Start over, cause he sucks and find a better body shop? Might want to get a 2nd opinion from a good body shop or dealer...then talk to the first guy.
Make him fix it?

I dropped by "Craftsman Collision" on 6th Ave today asking about the possibility of repainting. The manager said he is not able to match the color either becasue WDP is "too Hard" to do so.
Is that possible to make it look like original? my understanding is that even though u paint the whole side, the color of both side (left and right) will be slightly different.
Does WDP turns yellow as time goes by?

Yes both sides will be slightly different but who will be able to tell you can't pysically see both sides at once. As time goes buy any paint will cure so some color shifts may be possible. But pearl is wierd in that every layer you put on it changes the way the paint pigments lay and reflect light so it may look lighter or darker depending on angle and lighting. my rear bumper has 12 layers of pearl on it. In my opinion i would get the whole side blended.

3-4 is correct for stock. But i have the ronjon kit and when i painted it i got a 90% match with 12 layers. and since i didn't want to blend incase i sell the car i had to go to that extreme. Acura paint is not that great it is very thin and brittle. When you paint bumpers whether its 3 or 12 layers you won't see or feel the differnece in thickness becasue you have the gap where it joins the car.
You should not be able to see an obvious difference where the repair meets the original. Pearls are difficult to match, all shops know that, and they should factor this into their estimate. To match layered paint like pearls some shops will prepare a batch of sprayout samples using all combinations of the paint variations, and pick the one which matches your car best. This can be very time consuming. Even then, the repair must be blended. It sounds like yours wasn't. I think the painter made a bad guess on the paint mix and hoped you wouldn't notice. I'd take it back and ask them to do it again. To get it fixed now they will likely have to blend on the rear door or rear quarter and possibly the hood, since there is likely no original finish left showing on the fender and front door. (I'm assuming you can also see the mismatch between the hood and front fender.) On colors which are difficult to match it is common to paint the whole side, blending at each end.
Wdp
If my memory serves me ( I work in the Honda East Liberty Plant), the WDP has a white primer coat, then the white basecoat is applied, then a white mica (pearl) coat, then the clear coat. It's the most complex color in the Marysville Auto Plant (where the TL is made).
Without question, you should get the whole side repainted - it's how we would fix that type of defect in the factory. Pearls and Metallics are notoriously difficult to colormatch, and it's often easier to repaint the whole thing than to do a spot repair for a small area.
Good luck!
