Water in passenger floor boards
Water in passenger floor boards
The last couple of nights I have been trying to track down the source of water entering the passenger side of the car. I did look at the usual suspected points of possible water sources but none show to be the cause. I believe that I have found the source. When I initially started looking at this patch/seal/whatever it is used for I could run my finger up the inner lower side and make water come out from the top. Right below the seal is where the most mold is as well. So I heated up the adhesive (we used to call it monkey glue when I was an audio installer!) and spread it back out adhering it better. I plan to caulk the entire perimeter of this and see what happens. I'm not sure yet as to what I will use as far as silicone, or maybe roofing sealer. I'm leaning more towards the latter of the two. Any other suggestions? Has anyone else found this area to be a weak link in the water battles!?!

3M makes a brushable seam sealer as well as a tube called all around autobody sealant. Only water leak I'm aware of is the harness in the rear floor TSB.
I had a Grand Cherokee that leaked through the seam where the cowl met the fender, and water would run in behind the passenger side kick panel then under the carpet, applied sealant, no more leaks. Check the underside also for any areas that might need covering as rubberized undercoating will do the trick under the car.
To aide in finding the leaks, I use blue paper towels as they will make water much more visible than the white towels. Just spread them around and let the spraying begin.

HMM, is there a link for that tsb anywhere? I went and picked up some stuff very similar to JB Weld. It looks to set fast, then I plan to run tape over those joints. Prolly put some silicond around the ac line and grommet, then see what ever else I can put sealer on! Thanks for the reply!
I wouldn't use anything like JB Weld, it'd too hard and not flexible.
Water Leak Under the Rear Seat
If you’re getting complaints from ’04 TL owners
that the floor is wet under the rear seat cushion, it
could be because water is working its way along
the exposed wires in the right rear wheel sensor
harness, up through the grommet, and out into
the body.
This problem is easy to fix. Just inject some
silicone sealer into the wheel sensor harness near
the grommet. Be careful, though, not to get any
sealer on the connector terminals.
