Vtec disabled until after 1st oil change?

I thought I read something about this in the forum, but I've played around with search for a cople hours and I can't find it now.
I got a 2006 6mt no navi in June, it has ~2600 miles on it now. I love the car!!
It has good power, but I'm not really feeling the vtec rush at ~4700 rpm described elsewhere in the forum. It just pulls smoothly right on up, no different sounds, no kick in the pants.
A friend at work also said the vtec on his 99 tl was disabled until after the first service.
Any truth to that, or should it be working now? How would I tell?
Thanks for the help!!

I beleive ( From what I have heard) that the TL computer has a breakin mode which keeps the computer in a certain mode to avoid damage until you reset the MID after the first oil change

Interesting! I've never heard that. What would keep you from just resetting the service interval then?

My 04 Cobra came from the factory with no boost. Zippo. The bypass was wide open. This was to prevent transport drivers, lot lizards, etc from going out and wailing on the car. The predelivery tech was instructed to go out and drive it for something like 6 miles when the computer would automatically go into normal mode and allow boost.

My '06 TL has only 4000 miles on it and had not had any service and I absolutely feel and hear the vtec kick in.

So was there ever a time when the vtec didn't work, and then did after so many miles, or some other event? Or did it work from day one? Does it feel similar to turbo boost coming up?
I'll probably just wait until the first oil change is due and then ask the dealer.

VTEC is overrated as far as feeling it.

Ride in a turbocharged car and you will feel when the turbos kick in.

It would be cool to turn off... Why does a porter need to use my vtec.

While I agree that there is nothing like a turbo car coming from one myself. Have you ever riden in a built all motor Vtec car. Trust me it is definitely not overrated. The kick that you feel in a car like that is insane.

I guess I was freaking out over nothing.
It works fine, the transition is just smoother than I expected. Which makes sense, if Honda tuned it so Vtec comes on at the crossover point where the regular cam and the vtec cam are making the same power.
I used to have an 84 Regal turbo, I was expecting something like the turbo hit. That was fun . The TL is an awesome car, fun in a different way .
Thanks everybody!
Mike

No I haven't

I've heard the S2000 has a nice kick to it but never ridden in one.

You probably had your windows closed and A/C on since you are in Tucson, too. It's easier to tell when VTEC kicks in from the change in engine note with a window open and radio off, as the TL is pretty quiet with the windows up. That's one reason I got the TL instead of the G35-- more subdued/polished sounds with minimal difference in performance limits except on the track.
And I think you're right about the Honda engineers trying to minimize the turbo "shove-in-the-back" power curve in case the car happens to be in the middle of a sharp corner at the time.
