Vibrating Wheel Over 65 MPH

I just brought my car into the Acura dealer because I was getting a vibration in my steering wheel over about 65 MPH. The dealer claimed they checked all the usual problems (axel, CV joints, etc.) since it was part of the 30,000 mile service. They told me nothing was wrong with the car except my rear wheel was slightly bent. I am assuming this is the cause of the vibration but have heard other members feel no vibration with slightly bent wheels. I have Tenzo Type-M Version 2's right now. Should I replace the wheel and will that fix the problem? I am wondering if the wheels r not strong enough I may bend an another one. Any suggestions? As always, your help is appreciated

Tell ya what ... put a spare or one of the stock wheels where the bent one is and see if that solves it .. if it does its the wheel .. if it doesn't then its something else.

When you feel the vibration in the steering wheel then its front wheels .. the bent rear rim if causing the vibration should be felt in your seat not the stering wheel.

It might just be something as simple as you threw a wheel weight and you have a balance problem.

If you have a floor jack .. swap one front wheel with a back one and try it .. if the vibration is not in the steering wheel any more you found it .. if still there .. swap the other wheel etc. Least this way you can narrow it down.

I had the tires rotated and I feel as if the vibration went down a little. However, I still feel it in the steering wheel. I know my front two wheels r not bent so what else could it be then? Can the steering wheel really not vibrate unless the front tires are unbalanced?

Get hubcentric rings and rebalance the wheel. If your wheel isn't centered to the hub, you'll notice vibrations at abotu 65-70MPH. HOPEFULLY the hubrings alone will eliminate your problems. best of luck!

I have rebalanced the wheel twice. I have hubcentric rings as well. Anyone know someone who has Tenzos with the same problem? I feel like they were fine until I was driving home on the PA Turnpike. The truck in front of me dropped its drivetrain in the middle of the road and I hit it. Split my front wheel in half and ruined my tires. I got a new tire and wheel and yet still vibration. Then Acura Dealer told me another wheel was bent (most likely the second wheel that hit the drivetrain) and that they moved it to the back. However, I still feel vibration.....are there any other problems that could be causing this or is it a wheel issue....im about to just scrap these wheels and get another set.

I tell you what I am dealing with right now.
My car is vibrating like crazy whenever I accelerate hard or get going over 65. I took it to my mechanic and he put it on the lift and said the drivers wheel was bent really bad and the passenger side was also bent a little. So I took my two stock wheels down to him and swapped the 2 front wheels out.
Unfortunately, I still have HEAVY vibration when I accelerate! Getting really upset.

Wheels are Rays Engineering G-Games 99B Baracuda 19" w/Falken 452's

Chances are it's the balance. When I had the S4's installed, the shop that I had been going to for many years did the mount and balance, vibration over 65 and bad at 70/75. They rebalanced them 3 times, still a vibration. Took them to another shop and had them done twice, still a vibration, then found a Hunter Road Force machine, only a few miles from the house, vibration gone and has been fine for over a year.

I just bought an 06 TL after having eyed them for the past four years and can' t be happier. However I get a pretty good vibration in the steering wheel at 55+ and not sure what it is. The car has new tires, Hankook's. Any suggestions to reduce the vibration? I'll note that I drove a couple other TL's and feel vibration in them as well. Is there an inherent amount of vibration present in these cars?

It's just that the shops have a difficult balancing the TL assemblies. Read the post above and have the balance done on a Hunter Road Force machine.

I REALLY doubt its wheel balancing!! I switched wheels to ones that didnt vibrate before and had the EXACT same problem. IT is something else on the car, axle bent, motor mount, tie rod endlinks, or something. My mechanic has been trying to figure it out for a few days, I'll let you know what he figures out.

I had the same issue so here's what you should check...

If the vibration is created with the acceleration it could be many things....

1- Tire alignment (you already did)
2- Damaged rim
3- One of the Front cardan (axle in english ??) --> That was my case, as soon they replace this, the vibration went away and My TL was feeling like NEW

Thanks for the responses. I am going to order a new wheel tomorrow so we will see if that is the problem. Do our TLs have wheel bearings? A buddy of mine said he had the same problem and it was his wheel bearings...

Black_dc2 let me know what he finds if you dont mind

TL on "20" I thought it would be my axel is endlinks or something. I had the dealer do a full check of all of those. They "Claimed" they looked and everything look fine. Is this something they could have not seen or would it be obvious? I had my car aligned when I put on the new wheels and tires about 6 months ago so I doubt thats the problem. I want to get this solved so I can install my springs but I am afraid that will only make matters worse. Is there any way to diagnose my axel being bent without my car being on a lift?

I should add that the vibration is mainly during CRUISING speeds....though the faster I go the more noticeable it is. If I accelerate in the 4-5 thousand rang I dont really feel a vibration until i let off the gas

you can check it yourself is very easy to do, just look the edge of the rim if you notice a space between the rim and the tire there is your problem also remember to verified the inside of the rim.

At times is difficult to visually se a bent rim, so the best way, I use a dial indicator but in lieu of that device, jack up the car to get the tire off the ground, then get a block of wood or a spacer, place on ground the height needed to rest a pencil on the spacer and the eraser end just touching the outer part of the wheel. Turn the wheel and see if the wheel is uniform around the diameter.

Rather than purchasing another wheel, but the spare on to give it a try.

I have had this issue as well for almost a year. I have a 2004 AT and have had my wheels aligned, hunter road forced and even put on new tires. My wheels aren't bent, so not really sure whats going on. Seems to occur between 65-80 mph. The only things left that I can think of are possibly my axle or brakes. I am also thinking about having TSB 005-017 done, but do not expect this to fix the problem.

I figured it was the axles, took it into acura and got them both covered under warranty. Presto, smooth as hell now!

Yep, but I took my wheels off to take it in. But I know they hated my different wheel lock on every lug! :-) Gave me a free loaner and everything. RDX turbo, decently quick for a suv.

had exactly the same problem....terrible terrible vibrations over 75 and vibrations gone over 95 mph....

it was time for me to get new tires, so well started off there....new tires....mounted, balanced....and guess what.....vibrations were down to 30% of original vibrations....

then got some ingalls camber kit both front and back....got an alignment....vibrations comepletely GONE !!!!

now getting tires/camber kit had nothing to do with the vibrations disappearing....

get ur tires unmounted and remounted, balanced and get an alignment !!!!

Also, i had falkens and i went with fuzions !!!

Here is an update to my tire vibration problem that has me seeing red right now. Had the wife bring the car over to the Acura dealer, which is part of the auto group I bought the car from, which was a Honda dealer. They find that two rims are bent. Asked why we took so long to question the vibration and that we must have did it.
My wife is totally ripped. She left the Acura dealer and is on here way to the Honda dealer as I write.
Ok, she just called me. They made good and told her to go back to the Acura dealer and it will all be fixed at no charge! I am guessing that her leaving and heading to the Honda dealer was a good move.
I feel greatly relieved.
Moral of the story? I guess it would be to have the wheels checked.

2007 TL. I had a vibration problem recently after going over a bad pothole. I had a wheel alignment done at a 24 hour wheel alignment shop. They only do wheel alignments and are super pros. The mechanic showed me that I had a BENT TIRE. Yes a BENT TIRE and NOT a BENT RIM . The STEEL in the tire was bent in and was noticable when the wheel was turned manually on the lift. I replaced 1 tire and some vibration is gone. I think that my rear tire also has BENT steel I assumed that only front tires get damaged, and neglected to check the rear tire.

A faulty tire. More of a rare occurrence, but definitely possible.

Yes, hitting a concrete pothole by the Holland tunnel approach in N.J. at 55mph bent the steel and destroyed a $270 tire. luckily the rim was not bent.

^^^ the bent tire could also be caused due to constantly driving slammed and out of alignment....

i didnt have alignment and my falkens disappeared in 18K miles....i could see cords on 1 side and the other side was still ight !!!

Has anyone changed the front wheel bearings themselves. If you do it yourself it, you can eliminate another probable cause at a very low cost. As soon as the lousy winter weather is gone, it is first on my Spring to do list.

I've had the same problem too, but I just broke a rim the other day. It's still doin it with the spare on it. Could bent brake rotors make it vibrate?

Only under braking ... in your case it might be a different whell doing it.

Ive been having the same problem with my 05. Everything started with lots of vibrations when braking and car was pulling to the left ...Cross rotated the Toyo Proxes changed all for brake pads and rotors, aligned the car twice because it was pulling to the left, still pulling to left....And still getting vibrations...right rear caliper was sticking so I took it to the dealer, they covered it...Im getting vibrations still when braking...Took it to Town Fair tire re-aligned, They put the car on the lift and showed me that two of my rims are bent, put those bent rims in the rear along with the tires that are more worn, newer tires in the front. Still getting the vibrations thinking about taking it to the dealer -having them check out the front calipers maybe those are sticking as well...Getting really frustrated, could it be that my axles are messed up or something else?
