Trying to diagnose a problem when accelerating

I have 2004 TL 6 MT 196,000 miles; when I accelerate it feels as thought the clutch is still engaged as the RPMs rev and then the car engages. I wanted to get a second opinion as my mechanic says its the clutch slave. I dont understand the overall workings of that as the car is already in gear would this be an issue as the clutch is engaged and let out? Apologies for not explaining technically correct; if anyone has thoughts please let me know. He wants $375 to replace. The clutch was replaced last year with a FX 250.

thanks

Not sure exactly what you are describing regarding the timing here.....

If the clutch is "engaged" and the RPMs go up without the car going faster, it is slipping. This is where the clutch pedal is for sure released, then mash the gas and the RPMs go up without corresponding acceleration...this is bad.

If you are talking about slippage during quick shifts under hard acceleration due to the delay of engagement, that may be something else. This is you bounce off redline, shift to the next gear, pop the clutch and mash the gas, there may be a little slippage there as the delay valve slows down initial engagement.

The general test is to go up a freeway entrance ramp, leave it in 4th, fully engage the clutch and mash the gas. Does it slip it then?

Yes it does slip a little bit say 1000 rpms increase until I feel the car fully engage; mechanic says the clutch master cylinder is keeping the issue as the clutch is not fully engaged and causing that. he saw oil leaking from there. \

I am interesting in confirming his assumption ...thanks for the response

I would start there, rule out clutch hydraulics before cracking open the clutch housing.
