Trunk Spring Broken 2007 TL

Yesterday I found out that one of my trunk springs amd the clip had broken. This is a base model with navigation.

Some questions:

1- How can you tell if it is the right spring or the left spring? The broken part has the big hook on the Right side (passanger side) but I think the part is the Left Spring.

2- None of the dealers carry this part in the DFW area but they say it is at a local warehouse. Is it possible to go there and pick it up? Dealer price is about $30.00 and I am sure they want a chunk of change to put it on.

3-There seems to be some confusion as the part number does not seem to match or available is many places. (74872-SEP-A01)

4- Anyone in the area with the spring tool willing to help out?

Now that the trunk is fixed, here are the findings:

1- How can you tell if it is the right spring or the left spring? The broken part has the big hook on the Right side (passanger side) but I think the part is the Left Spring.

Where the small U shape hook attaches to, that is the correct side.

2- None of the dealers carry this part in the DFW area but they say it is at a local warehouse. Is it possible to go there and pick it up? Dealer price is about $30.00 and I am sure they want a chunk of change to put it on.

They will not let you pick up from warehouse

3-There seems to be some confusion as the part number does not seem to match or available is many places. (74872-SEP-A01)

There is a new part number: (74872-SEP-A01ZZ) Cost ~ $14

4- Anyone in the area with the spring tool willing to help out?
Ended up letting the dealer do it for $25.

IIRC, the OEM 3G TL wing spoilers came with stronger trunk springs as part of the install kit because of the additional weight of the wing (much more than the lip spoiler).

Search the vendor sites for the OEM wing spoilers and there might be a separate part number for those springs; otherwise search AZ threads for the wing spoilers and references to the trunk springs.

Any chance you still have the '08 trunk springs?

Trunk opens weakly

I just purchased a 2007 TL, and the trunk is rather weak in opening. Sometimes It doesn't even raise, it just releases the latch. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Can the springs be adjusted? If not, is is possible that they are just old and need to be replaced? If so, is it something I can do myself?

^^ That sounds normal to me, mine doesn't open all the way up on its own. Just pops and its easy to raise by hand.
