Trouble bleeding power steering
Trouble bleeding power steering
The plastic hose connection that goes into the ps pump was broken in half so I bought a new one along with a new o-ring. I lost some fluid during all of this, but not much.
Since air was introduced to the system I knew I had to bleed the system so I bought some fluid, but didn't add any to begin with because the reservoir was full. I started by raising the car and having my wife turn lock to lock slowly 20-30 times until the gurgling noises stopped. The whole time the fluid level remained quite high and actually spilled out several times during this process, but it didn't turn bubbly brown at all. Then we started the car to listen and watch the fluid level. She ran it at 1000 rpms and continued to turn lock to lock slowly like I've read to do here on the forums.
The fluid turned bubbly and stayed that way while the car ran but the level never dropped below the fill lines. The funny noises stopped so we turned the engine off and the brown bubbly fluid came pouring out and flowed down into the engine bay and onto the ground. This has happened twice now and I'm not sure why. I haven't read about this problem for anyone else on here so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. All the DIY threads I've found regarding this were so simple and drama free.
Keep in mind up to this point I haven't seen the fluid level drop enough to require more be added. Also the fluid in there is a clean brown color so I'm not concerned with it being replaced.
The history of the ps system is that the pump was replaced roughly 20-30k ago by a trusted indy shop with no issues since.
Any help is appreciated.

When you say "pouring out", from where? The fluid should be nearly clear if new. There are two O-rings. Did you change both of them? Change both O-rings and put new fluid in. I flushed one new pint through after emptying the reservoir before filling with the new fluid. It helps to have someone assist you for turning the car on and off as it needs to be done quickly or you will do damage. Gotta explain where it is pouring out from.
This might be helpful to someone in the future so I'm including a follow up. When I installed the plastic piece on the inlet side of the ps pump I damaged the o-ring causing air to enter the system consistently so my bleeding attempts were useless. The air in the system was causing the reservoir to overflow with frothy/bubbly fluid. Once I checked the o-ring I found the issue, replaced it and experienced a normal bleeding process.
What color was the o ring that came on the plastic piece for the return line? Black or orange? If it was black then do your self a favor and go to your local Acura dealer ship and tell them you want the orange o ring for the fitting on the pump to the return line because the black ones dry out and cause air to get in the system
