Transmission upgrade

I bought an '04 TL with a bad automatic transmission. I can find '04-'05 transmissions on car-part.com for $900 - $1,000, but '06-'07 transmissions are $250 - $500 all day long. I found an article last week that talked about the newer transmissions having a lot of the known issues resolved, but I can't seem to find the article again. For those in the know, is there any reason I can't use the newer transmission to get this car going again?

A few comments:
  • The 2004-2006 TL Automatic transmissions are the same and subject to low reliability.
  • The 2007-2008 TL Automatic transmissions are upgraded and quite reliable, however, they will not fit in your car as the Engine/Transmission interface has changed.
  • The 2006-2006 Honda Accord V6 (often referred to as "AV6") is upgraded as well and will bolt right into your 2004 TL.

Thank you for that info. Was that supposed to read 06 - 08 Accord? Is there a transmission computer that needs to be changed at the same time?

No, only the 2006-2007 Accord. Search AV6 in the 2nd Gen TL forum; there is a very long thread on the subject.
