04 tl, mt. rattle/knock

so, I have a noise that sounds like it's up top of the engine. thought it was the power steering pump, since the rattle/knock really sounds loudest there. took the belt off, no change. which means not anything belt driven. Trying to decide whether to start by pulling valve covers or timing cover.

Get yourself a "Red-Neck Stethoscope" (a short length of garden hose or a vacuum cleaner hose) and isolate the noise.

A screwdriver works better. That's how I thought the power steering pump was making noise. seams to go away @ 3k rpm. made me think something to do with v-tec, so pulled valve covers. Everything looks good. Kinda lost. Don't know what to look at next.

I video on YouTube similar to your noise would help since these engines tend to be a bit noisy anyway.

Does the noise go away when the engine warms up?

Do you need a valve adjustment?
