Yesterday the transmission on my 04 TL automatic blew and I'm looking at replacing it with an 07 TL Type-S transmission I found a deal on.

My question is, will the 07 type-s transmission work okay with my 04? I know people have had success with 06-07 Accord transmissions on 04 TL's, so I'm assuming a TL Type-S transmission should work fine.

The seller says it is compatible with 07 base which has the same J32 motor, so it should be compatible, right?

If anyone has any information on this, I would appreciate your input.

two different trannys for two different engines. The Type S has the 3.5 liter engine and a beefier tranny from the RL I don't believe you can bolt it up to the 04 base 3.2 liter engine.

 

But the Type S and the 07 base model share the same transmission and the base 07 is a 3.2 as well.

Would I be better off rebuilding my transmission than replacing it?

 

Can anybody confirm that the 2007 Type S transmission will not work on a 2004 base TL?

yes its true the 07 tl share the same automatic transmission for base and type S, but there are very minor differences in engine between 04-06 and 07-08 base TL's.

point being, dont get the 07 transmission unless you're willing to shell out big bucks to make it work

 

Ah... Alright. 2007 transmissions seem to be much easier to find and cheaper. Guess I will keep searching for an 04-06 trans
