I have an 04 Acura Tl with Automatic trans.... the issue im having with this car which i just bought with over 200k miles. it drives and shifts fine when cool, but once warmed up it barely shifts into 3rd gear trys to shift into 4th but all it does is rev up...drove it last night and it would not down or upshift out of 4th gear. I turned it off and restarted it and it drove fine, thankfully. i've changed the filter and thinking on ordering the 3rd & 4th presssure switches today. i have no idea what i've gotten myself into, any suggestions?

 

You're not going to want to hear this, but buying an 04 w/ auto trans w/ over 200k miles is basically begging for a transmission failure. The fact that it's struggling to shift into 3rd and 4th means that it's already on it's way out. You can try to replace the pressure switches, the filter, and the fluid, but there's no guarantee of anything. If you do those, you might get another 20k or more out of it. Or it could catastrophically fail tomorrow, and now you're a couple hundred bucks in the hole after the fluids, filter, and switches.

If you want to keep driving this car, I'd be looking for a good trans rebuild kit, or be looking for a 07 accord v6 auto transmission + torque converter (which will directly fit onto our cars as a replacement).
