looks like that tranny has taken some hit....

take the car into a shop where they can drill and remove the fill bolt and weld and fix the tranny case....

DO NOT DRIVE with fluid coming out of the tranny....

well warm the car up and drive around and see the fluid level or see if the fluid is coming out of the fill bolt....the contents in the tranny box are pressurized so fluid might come out....

if i were you i would be towing the car...

Sounds good to me. dealer wanted $6,000 (!!) out here. My mechanic did it for $2,500 - which I was very happy with. Another guy on here said that Aamco charged him $1,500 - but didn't fix some electrical issues.

Still haven't gotten this fixed!...no bueno...

Make sure you use oem fluid after you rebuild it.....most shops if not all use aftermarket fluid....

No bueno. Use anything but Z1. DW-1 if you must use factory. Much better would be Amsoil ATF or Redline D4 or if you're like me, Type F.

Trans case is not under pressure, there's a vent tube. Just 1psi of pressure will start massive leaks at the axle seals and all over.

OP, how did you crack the case and break a bolt, during tightening? If so you might invest in a torque wrench in the future.

$1,350 is not a rebuilt trans, that's a used trans. Replace switches no matter which option you choose.

the case im not sure if it came like that i had it covered with jb welder so that stopped the leak for months so i was going to replace the transmission either way because of high miles but since i broke the fill bolt now i have to do it asap and yea they told me the'll give me a rebuilded transmission with instaliion and warranty for 1 year

Sounds good of a deal......make sure it's a transmission that's rebuilded and not a used one off a junkyard and slapped on.....

Either way for that price either one is good.....

Trust me, they can tell you anything they want but for $1,300 it's not a rebuild, it's a used trans.

IHC i thought the tranny case runs with some PSI and thats why the fill bolt tends to tighten up everytime....

i think he broke the fill bolt while popping it open....

Nah, its just a steel plug in an aluminum case and lots of heat cycles. The case has small oil passages but the case and sump as a whole has no pressure inside or it would be leaking fluid from all over the place. The vent is on top near the fill plug. Its open to atmosphere. If the vent plugs, just the small amount of pressure from expansion from heat will cause leaks.

If that's the case, I'd go with a rebuild - even if it costs twice as much. TL transmissions aren't known for their longevity; but you should be able to get at least 60 - 70k miles out of one. I can't see that happening with a used one.

*update*

so i recently bought a used tranmission with 102k on it .test drove it before i bought it. seemed good no delays and no funky smell coming out of the dipstick to check the a/t oil
and i got it installed for 300 not including the oil
plus i sold my cracked transmission for 200
ive been driving my new transmission for a week it has more power on it compare to my old one
so i think the price came out good wat do u guys think?

the only thing i need to do is an alighment now as i read somewere that you have to drop the subframe in order to replace the transmission on our cars even though the mechanic deny moving it at all

and i wont be doing the oil changes on it neither i learned the hardway i rather pay 10 bucks for a mechanic to do it then me atleast if they break it they pay for it lol

You know these TL's have bad transmissions, right? I got 115K out of mine - and I think that's on the high end.

? How did you test drive the used transmission? Was it on another TL? Or it was already installed to yours then you test drive it before they made you pay?..
