Transmission issues?

Well it all started earlier today when I was on the highway my check engine light turned on, Everything was fine when I drove to the city and came back (i'm from NYC) and while i was going home on local my car kept revving everytime i stepped on the peddle and my car wouldn't move, The car would jerk a little and struggle to move but it won't budge. I'm assuming it's my transmission? I wouldnt have to turn my car off and back on in order for it to move again when i'm on (D). Also when I reverse the car would move forward when i let go of the breaks, stop then it would reverse. Recently I got into an accident and had my alignment fixed on the driver side, Any advice would be appreciated!

My 04 TL has a similar problem. I recently has the entire engine swapped because my retarded uncle-in-law drove through a sea of water cause the engine to hydrolock. He's a mechanic and took full responsiblity for his actions & purchased a used engine with 40 something thousand miles on it. My engine had 73k on it. The swap was flawless and everything seemed to work perfectly. On the way from the shop, the car drove & then as he pulled off from a red light with some gas, the vehicle felt like it was in neutral. Floored it & the car wouldnt budge, it would just rev, so we thought it was the tranny. I had the car sent to Acura of Brooklyn for further diagnosis. The computer diagnosed it as bad output shaft speed sensor. The dealer ordered it and will install it on Thursday. Hopefully this will solve the problem because Acura doesnt want to pay for a new transmission even though the vehicle is certified. the error code was P0721.

I hate to say it but that's not going to fix it. The techs these days rely solely on codes and not common sense.

How was the fluid level?

You would think that would be the first thing to check. I lol everytime I see these threads and not even the fluid level/condition has been checked yet.

The fluid levels were all fine.

So if the sensor isnt the problem do you think it's possibly the tranny?

LOL his inbox is either full or a 98-99% full all the time. He does so much for us as it is already. Click on his username & click "find more posts by I hate cars" then follow his research on our transmissions.

...and yes, it is most likely transmission failure. Sorry.

I would be so pissed if it's the transmission because the dealer was ready to replace it, but The god damn Acura support tech told the dealer to replace the sensor first since it was the only thing that failed.

Well not sure if this helps, but a looooooong time ago i owned a '97 pontiac Trans am WS-6, it was a shitty auto (4L60E), long story short i had tranny probs. I had a very similar problem at one point, and it turned out it was the throttle linkage.

So here's an update. The dealer replaced the sensor & the vehicle did the same shit. They decided to order a new tranny after all this time.

1. How much time/miles elapsed from when you got the CEL until the car started acting up?
2. Did the CEL ever go out?
3. Did you get a flashing "D" also?
4. If you turn off the car and let it sit for at least 15 minutes and then start it back up again, does it still act up? Is CEL still on?
5. Any chance you know someone who has a code reader that can come over and read the codes that were thrown with the CEL?
6. How many miles on car? What year?
7. Has the fluid ever been flushed? Filter changed?

It was indeed the transmission. The car is moving, but now i'm getting this weird sound from the engine bay. It could be the alternator or one of the belts.
