Transmission issue in 2008 Acura TL
I am having transmission issue in my 2008 Acura TL(110k miles). I took it to Acura dealer and they told me replace with a new transmission which may cost around $5000. I then took it to another mechanic which quoted $1800 for installing a used transmission($1000 for used transmission(with 115k miles on it) and fluids and $800 for labor cost). Now I am confused which way to go. $5000 is too high based on the return value of my car but then I don't know if $1000 and $800 is right amount for used transmission and labor cost which the other mechanic quoted me. Which way should I go and is $1800 right amount for a used transmission installation?

Do you know the problem? What issue what symptoms? You're sort of just throwing A LOT of money at it without knowing what exactly the problem is

The Acura dealer told me that there is so much lag or delay between the 3rd gear and 4th gear that because of that the gear is forced to go to neutral when trying to go from 3rd to 4th in automatic transmission. They told me there is no electrical or other kind of failure which can be repaired and that the system needs to be replaced. The mechanic also told me the same thing after looking at it and said that the soft parts of the system needs to be rebuilt or replace with a used or new system.

Did you do a transmission fluid drain and refill, did you look at the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches?

The Acura dealer checked the transmission fluid and said it is in good condition and there is no issue with that. When I drive my car in drive mode I can notice that after 3rd gear the rpms increase suddenly but the car doesn't speeds up (barely stays at 30-40 mph) and it looks the car is trying to go to 4th gear but couldn't go. Since I don't know about internals of a car so I don't know about 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches and I assume the dealer and auto repair shop might have done that as both said the same thing about the issue without knowing that I had show it to other.

They are simply wanting to make money. I would talk to the independent mechanic and have him switch out the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches. That is a cheaper alternative that may or may not fix your issue. Right around $100 you could have the 2 switches and 2 new 10mm gaskets. I actually have 2 myself I purchased with thoughts of changing mine but my trans decided to go before I put them in. Id have to double check or someone could chime in and say if they are or not the same part. Check the Black Market for the switches (https://acurazine.com/forums/car-par...-visor-948757/)
I would do some research before throwing out that much money. But that is just me.

Is the gear pressure switch something that the mechanics or auto repair shops do have with them at their store or do I have to buy on my own? Also if that also doesn't resolves the issue and I have to change the transmission system so does a the price that mechanic quoted me reasonable or am I paying too much ($800 for labor cost and $1000 for used transmission)? I am asking this as I am a very new car user.

I'd say the price the independent mechanic gave you is reasonable. Make sure there is some sort or warranty with it. I was quoted $2300 parts, labor, nationwide warranty. The pressure switches you will have to buy as the mechanic probably doesn't have them on hand. Could save a few bucks and purchase mine from the black market, 85 Shipped and they come with 2 new 10mm gaskets.
For some reason the charted picture shows (3) sensors for the 08 AT. Can someone verify that for me.

Looks like all you need is one more sensor and gasket.Could be had for another $45-$50 thru acuraoemparts.com.
Like I said before, would be worth a shot replacing that to see if it fixes the issue. Worse case you remove them and sell them if that didn't fix it and then get the trans replaced.

You can have the existing trans pulled from the car and refurbished. Many trans suppliers sell upgraded parts to help these transmissions last longer. First try the switches, if that doesn't help I'd go with the rebuild route. You aren't taking as large as a gamble with a rebuilt trans. Also you can buy rebuilt TL-S trans with a warranty for around 1K online.
